I already looked at the photos listed under the equipment bar but i want to see how macro i can get with this lens...anyone have any?

Hmm, it doesn't really do well in the macro field, my 24-70L does much better and I usually end up using that. Closest distance is 45cm... Anyways, it's a brilliant lens.

-- i was about 2 feet from her
-- i was about 1 foot from his feet (he was on stage)

not particularly "macros" .. but close up enough and great for low lighting

thanks for sharing the wonderful photos from the canon 50mm F1.8 mark 2 lens.
If anyone else has any i would love to see them

looks to be a real sharp lens. Im paying $79 plus shipping for mine. is that good average or did i just rip myself off? I guess i should have done some research on this lens before i hit the BIN button but i have plans on getting a tube(?) in the near future.

You paid the same price that B&H charges, so that's certainly fair.

You can get alot closer than these if you use the trick of using another lens reversed to get a major macro. this lens is fast sharp and has great color. I wish all cheap lenses were this good.

11 of 15 are ribbon winners on the Lens Page here at DPC... not bad odds (all those shots on that page are ribbon winners in my book).

Whoops, my bad didn't read the OP fully... I know that there is someone here at DPC with some close-ups, there are a couple with the 50 reversed which is just intense.

Currently that is the only lens I have for my new 300D ... and I absolutely love it. I hope it doesn't spoil me for the other lenses I plan to buy.

I was able to take a shot of a Construction Level bubble from within 1 foot yesterday. Not exactly macro, but it will focus at a decent range.

here's a few I have taken with mine

Sorry I didn't read your original post completely. To answer your question, the 50mm alone is pretty lousy for macros. This is the closest I could get to a dollar bill with the 50mm (focusing on the eye):

Here are two comparison shots I did a while ago with the Tamron 28-75mm and the 50mm reversed on a 18-55mm kit lens:

yeah. buy the reverse macro coupler for about $7 for the 52 and 58mm filter ring and you're set ;)

B&H has a wide veriety of Macro couplers
03/09/2006 11:28:59 AM · #23
how does the reverse macro thing work ... i have the kit lens too and as you know the 50mm ... can anyone explain? thanks

The coupler will have threads on both sides, so you just attach the second lens to the first as if it were a big filter.

I love it...
