Shiiizzzam and I have started a community on LiveJournal called dailyphoto in hopes of spotlighting and stimulating discussion on outstanding photography.

If you know of a photographer (or especially a specific photograph) that should be featured, please post a LINK to that photograph here (use the globe icon, not the image icon when posting). We will select one photo per day from this and other sources to be featured.

For prints that are available on DPC Prints, we will include a link to the print sale page. Please let us know if an image you post is on DPC Prints)

EDIT: I forgot to add, if you are a LiveJournal user please feel free to join dailyphoto, and please help spread the word!

This photo would be very nice to feature in my opinion. I didn't do very well in the challenge, and I'm the only one to fav it, but I think it really shows the baby's character and expression brilliantly, by simply using 1 small part of it's face.

I should add.... the photos for this journal need not be DPC photos... I would like to have s wide a variety as possible... please feel free to include photos found anywhere.

This is one of my nominations,it is the photograph that really caught my eye and got me addicted to this site. I think we could learn a lot from discussing this shot.

Oooh it's lovely. A great shot. I never did remember to go through and look at most of the Round entries... must do that as this one is superb.

Never, ever turn your back on a baby. They look cute but they can jump up and strangle you at any moment!

Dang, just when I was looking forward to our first child ... in two months. I guess I should take up karate lessons now.

This is probably one of my all time fav images on DPChallenge. I think the man working in the foreground and selective use of color with the black and white treatment of the large business man in the back really tells a story. This image is more then just a photo, it's a statement about life.

All great choices, keep em coming.

Also please feel free to include images from other sites, including personal sites. I don't want this to be too DPC-centric.

In terms of the work of other photographers, I'd recommend portraits of Seydou Keita.

Ah - time to put a worg in for perhaps the best photographer I know of: Simon Norfolk, and particularly the balloon-seller photograph (all photos are on the page, can't directly link to an individual image.

I was able to find LOTS of his portraits on the web but not one site that had all or lots of it... instead different sites/ articles on him feature different images.

A google search brings quite a lot up but here are a couple of sites:

//zonezero.com/exposiciones/fotografos/keita/default.html
//www.newmassmedia.com/ls97spring/keita.html

There are some great books of his work available (non of which I own, though I do have some postcards) and a book featuring work by Keita and fellow Malian, Malick Sidibe, which supports a recent exhibition of their work called You Look Beautiful Like That.

I did a series of portraits based on his work for my recent NCFE evening class. What I love about his photos is the way that, despite all the clashing and striking patterns in his subjects' clothes, in the flooring, in the backdrops etc it is the people themselves who remain the focus of the images. I took the pics one evening during class, in the studio next to the darkroom, my neighbours kindly modelled for me.

When I get my portfolio back from college I'll scan and share some.

I have a bias because I helped design and produce this book many years ago:
I'm Not Crazy, I Just Lost My Glasses by Lonny Shavelson. He has a pretty good range of photojournalistic portraiture there.

This one's not from DPC but from the Fuji challenge website.
This is one of the best black and white portrait shots I know
