I don't want to stir the pot or anything....but I noticed a member who has comments and votes of ten from 2 members who are registered on the same date as the member(brand new). The voters are no camera-vote only members and "seem" to be family members.
I am thinking we could all register family members and vote as them, is this fair?
One of the voters in question gave one vote, a ten, on the image. The other voter has an average vote given of 3.XX, but stated that they gave this image a ten also.
Is this something that should be pointed out to site council, or am I over reacting??

My cat loves most of my shots..can she vote?? ;)

I think this has reasons to be investigated... I mean we are all trying to be fair and simply have a good time and if there are con artists among us then its gone beyond just that!

I have dissociative identity disorder. I am going to register my 'alter' personalitites and make them vote. Some of them take better photos than me, so I might also sell some prints ;-) Hmm, I think you might have something there worth investigating.

Well as I was saying, my cat Loves my work, I am sure my mom would give me tens as well!!

I guess I should let the powers that be in on it, to do a little digging :)

Mighty interesting! Please follow up on that, for the sake of everyone here. Thank you.

I have not posted since becoming a member but would feel slighted if that was a part of our business practice.

LOL, Rikki!
I've noticed crazy voting practices at other sites, too...where you can supposedly only vote once a day, and all of a sudden somebody has 40 votes to somebody else's one vote. Either they are emailing all of their friends or associates and pleading, "Vote for me!", or they just have a big ol' houseful of cats. I don't even take voting seriously at those sites.

Did you send a ticket to the site council concerning this? If not, it's an easy thing to do. Just click Help then Contact and fill out the form. One of the SC can get an investigation started. Don't just assume that they'll read this forum post - it could get missed, but a contact ticket won't.

I personally don't think it's a big deal. Scores of ten from family members will not have any significant improvement in your overall score since there are usually over 300 people who vote on any given image.

i think it should be sorted out.

If thats how its going then my goldfish can vote?!
i could go onto an other forum i'm on with all my friends on and tell them to give me a score of 10.

its just unfair and will cause a riff in the site and the forum and it'll all blow up and go crazy and out of control

Feel free to put a ticket request in. This could be family members... or it could be the same person with different accounts (which is strictly prohibited)... or it could just be a coincidence. We'll be glad to check into it further.

In my view, if someone is soliciting unwarranted scores, they themselves are the losers.
For me it's about growth, and if my scores are anything to go by, I have a long way to go.
Would laugh if a ribbon is won on a real plonker, where just about all comments are negative (in a maner of speaking).... Would be too embarrased to stick around if it was me :-)

What's the point, really? There are no prizes for winning, and members will see the quality of your photos. The proof is in the pudding. I don't see how inflating your average is going to achieve anything other cheating yourself.

my fiance' and i both submit photos now and i dont vote on hers because of this reason.

but not everyone looks at it that way. whats to stop you from opening twenty accounts and voting tens on all your own pics. i dont see a way of policing this sort of thing but then i dont know the technology involved either.

The key there is "signicant improvement"
If I had a friend or relative vote 10 in this image

and they had given even a 5 to everyone else,
I would have had a yellow ribbon.

For what it's worth, this is the one it would have bumped.
I gave it a well deserved 8.

In answer to your original questions...

"Is this something that should be pointed out to site council, or am I over reacting??"
You are over reacting. Reporting it wastes people's time and exacerbates a growing "witch hunt" mentality that exists at this site. There is already checks and balances in place to catch this type of cheating.

"I am thinking we could all register family members and vote as them, is this fair?"
No, it would be cheating to do that. There is no proof the person you brought up did any such thing. It just may be that person's family members signed up and gave them 10s because they like their relatives pictures. That is as legitimate a reason for a high vote as DNMC is for a low vote. Both are just pure opinions.

"My cat loves most of my shots..can she vote??"
Nope... unless she can sign up on her own and you don't direct her paw.

And one of those checks and balances are people like the OP who report strange occurances so that they can be checked. Over-reacting would be to post the person(s) involved's names all over the forums and asking people to go yell at them.

I would have to agree with artyste. If you truly feel they are "vote swaying" just send us a quick ticket and we'll look into it.

Rae-Ann is spot on with the post. No I don't think this is over reacting. This site needs to try and work on an honor system. It may only sway the total vote by a small amount but "it isn't right"

If it only happened once, how can it be proven that the photographer had any idea what was going on. Take for instance me. My Light on White Challenge entry was a photo of my little girl. I was at my parents' house over the weekend viewing my scores. I left the screen up. Once my mother saw what was going on, she later registered and voted on my image. I didn't ask her to, or encourage her to do so. As far as I can see, she hasn't done it since. I don't discuss my entries with her.

I don't see what SC can possibly do to prevent photographers from having family and friends register and vote on their images. It is an integrity issue.

Rae-Ann, how in the world did you discover this?

See... Now I bet you are sorry you don't have any friends, aren't you? LOL!

If only YOU had given that image a 3 you'd have got the yellow. But then you'd be guilt ridden over that. ;)
