Well one of my comments has stated "DOes Not Meet The Challenge." Unbelievable. It is what brings ME comfort, not the voter. I hope they keep that in mind when they are voting, not to put their ideas of comfort and what it should be over the image they are looking at. This really should be voted more on technical qualities, only because comfort is different for everybody.

This is the 2nd challenge I have entered after taking a "break" from challenges. It seems I did not take a long enough break as I am starting this challenge (and my last one) at 4.5. Funnily enough, my last one came back and ended up at 5.7x Why is it that the first morning is really bad? Does it give the low voters a psychological advantage?

Well pffft to you if it does! lol

Hi June (ladymonarda),

I have to say that I have just finished voting on the comfort challnege and I don't think I have ever had to vote so low...manyof the shots were appalling. Though the subjects could be of comfort to the photographer as you mentioned, it was such a stretch at times that you just had to mark accordingly. Even the odd couple challenge has produced very few stand out shots in my humble opinion. It just seems that people leave their shots till the last minute and then try and fit an average photo into the challnge by pushing sentence long titles to try and explain the connection between the photo and the challenge.

4.2 here
BUT i have never seen so much of cat photos :-) i think in "cats" challenge (i hope there will be no) would be less cat photos LOL ...
i simply could not finish voting ... i'll do my best to vote on the rest 50%
okay ... let's move on ...

After 24 votes and 1 comment..(a nice one), my standing is low. I know my idea of comfort is a totally different than most of the shots I've seen, but it is my comfort zone. I believe some of the ideas of comfort that folks may have wanted or expected is what is lacking. I am glad I entered this challenge no matter the scores...and hope to fair decent in the end, but if not, hopefully I will recieve some constructive critism as to bettering myself.

Ugh.. I really thought this one would be over a 6. I'm guessing it's the DNMC thing, which I don't really understand. I don't think mine's a stretch at all. I don't like to sleep and I don't get comfort from alcohol, but I'm definitely not planning on marking all of those shots down. Oh well... I guess I can't really complain.

I decided to quit entering every challenge and be a little choosier about what I submitted. Seems to be working, but don't want to jinx myself by getting comfortable with this score...we all know how scores can plummet or skyrocket at random! ;)
hotpasta...you did comment on my shot and I appreciate your comment as it was generally positive, although perhaps a little nitpicky. LOL But thank you anyways for taking the time to make suggestions...glad mine wasn't appalling to you. :)

Basically, I suck.

Maybe it's just one of those days and I'll have a better perspective later in the week. :-) Let's just say that I may have overestimated when I predicted a 4.3-4.6.

First 2 votes were 7's and the third was a 6. I was pretty excited. Been going downhill since though. Still fairly decent numbers for me though, and what goes down must come up.

Hotpasta: I have to agree that many of the images aren't up to DPC par. I also have to admit that my image is one of those. I did exactly as you said...waited until the last minute and entered a not-too-creative image slightly out of focus for sake of entering. (4.03 right now)

This brings me to a question.

Do folks feel it's more important to enter something that may be so-so or only enter pieces that you feel are absolutely stellar?

I've noticed that unless my image is excellent, horrible, or undersized I don't receive comments. That leaves folks in the middle often without criticism...so what do we get out of entering? Just a question...curious where people stand on this.

blazingmoonlight, I sat out a couple of challenges, out of utter discouragment with my scores. There were shots I entered that were definitely sub-par, but some I feel deserved a better score than they received (for ex: My first Kodak POTD only received a 5.051 here...see what I'm saying?) ;) All subjective. Somebody may just be bored with the subject matter, prefer abstracts over natural images, all sorts of reasons for why they vote the way they do. Why do we enter? Pure masochism!!!

My current entry is one I entered way before the voting started...as soon as I shot it, I thought, "This may FINALLY be the one that appeals to folks at DP!" I am being a bit choosier with my entries. I've had well over a hundred POTD's, but just can't seem to break a 6 here.

Ahh heck, just go with your gut. If you like it, enter it. If you really really like it, maybe you hit the nail on the head this time. Good luck!

(Edited for spelling).

Great point! Thanks for your feedback. I wouldn't have looked at it that way.

I agree as well. The challenge is actually what I personally think is so bad compared to past challenge entries that I am not even voting on it this time around. I voted on the painting with light challenge instead. I tried, but just had to stop. I couldn't take it anymore. LOL...

Therefore, I think this particular challenge will be a low vote win, so don't worry about those low scores. I myself am actually in the 4.8 range. That is my lowest score to date I believe, and I know factually it is totally uncalled for. The photo is a good one. It certainly meets challenge and even has emotive value with a bit of humor and technically? I barely even had to do a crop. So if an image like that is doing a 4.8, then I can just imagine what you are all experiencing. LOL....

Sometimes I do have to wonder if it is out of jealousy or wonder that others vote your photos down, don't you? I mean, my ET photo for the 80's challenge started at a 7.0. It dived down to a 4.8 with all wonderful comments? Only once it was validated, and only then, did it climb up. That is pretty sad that others vote because they are "wondering" about the submission rule values instead of just asking straight out like one ambitious voter did on mine.

Ahhh, well, one never knows in this arena what is going to happen. LOL..I guess that is partly the fun. I don't let it bother me. It is just fun to watch now. At first, I used to question just what the hell was going on here. LOL...Now? I just enter my best shot, and if I love it, then that is really all that matters. Just a bit of advice for those in turmoil with low scores.

Mine's dropping some, too. Comments are all favorable, however, and I know in my gut it's good.
I couldn't just say that every single entry is bad in one Challenge. I think those who are disappointed in this Challenge should at least page thru it, and I'm sure some images will leap out at the voter as being decent. Give it a chance. Certainly not all 255 participants did a poor job.

Actually, you are quite correct. I did go through all the thumbnails, and one stood out to me as being the most freakiest photo I have seen to date on the site. LOL....I will leave comment on that one but won't comment on it further to give it away, but WHEW what a photo that is! LOL.... I just simply couldn't get past voting 11% of the challenge entries so I just stopped. I think this is a first for me, LOL..but there have been many firsts for me at DPC so this is really just one more :)

Rose, I looked at the average vote you give out, and it's sitting around 4.8 somewhere, so I guess you're a hard one to please. (Seems like you are a bit harder on others than you would like them to score yours?) I won't push you into voting this Challenge, as I don't want my score to dip any lower. :) But I am certain that there are a good deal MORE than 20% of decent entries in this Challenge. I'm more than halfway through and have found some lovely images in there...well worth commenting on.
