The UPS guy just brought me my new-to-me Tamron 70-210mm 2.8 AF today; I bought it from Cresus on here.

Threw a UV filter on, snapped on the lens cap, and went out for a walk to see what I could hunt down to force my newfound perspective and shallow DOF on.

They aren't the greatest, just some test shots. Some with high ISO, because there were dark rain clouds moving in and it wasn't very sunny. It started raining on me 1/3 mile from home so I got a little wet on the way back. I hope to find some more critters to photograph tomorrow, and maybe some riding pics on thursday.

I'm really happy with it so far, seems to be a very well built lens and the sharpness at 2.8 seems good (probably going to shoot wide open 90% of the time so that's good). Pretty heavy, I guess 3lb or so. A photo of it mounted to the camera:

Congrats! An f/2.8 Tele-zoom in that range is a workhorse. This one should serve you well.

Where can you find a Tamron 70-210mm F/2.8 . I can't find it at B&H, Amazon, eBay, or Tamron.com?
All I can find is f/3.5-5.6 - I am interested in seeing its MTF chart compared to the sigma and canon L.

Congrats and thanks for sharing the pics.

Nice speed and focal range but the bokeh looks a little on the harsh side when used wide open.

I am also interested where you found this lens. I am looking for a 70-200mm f2.8 or similar lens for relitavely cheap. Seems like these are pretty rare on ebay. I've seen a few Sigmas there its just too bad that they won't work properly with my camera.

It's not the most popular lens, but you might be able to find one at a retailer somewhere - I bought mine used.
Here's the Froogle results for the query 'Tamron 70-210 2.8'
//froogle.google.com/froogle?q=tamron%2070-210%202.8

sir_bazz: I think that might have been partly my high ISO settings, combined with the non-selective sharpening and the fact that I didn't get the exposure perfect on the shots and had to push them a little. I've had very similar looking results from my 50 1.8 and 28-75 2.8, but I'll put it on a tripod and do some comparison shots just out of curiosity.

Hey I'm glad you like it. It is a hard lens to find. Not many people selling them.

Looks pretty sharp, cool shots...interesting bokeh on the cat shots.

They don't make this lens anymore. Used copies are $400-500 range.
This old site has some info on it - //www.photodo.com/nav/prodindex.html

I like my copy!
My highest scoring image and third highest scoring image are with it.

My favorite person shot is with it too -

If only winter will end so I can go out and play!

I really like that shot of the man, Prof_fate.

It's pretty much spring here; had 60+ degree temps the past few days, and even though it rained today it was plenty warm enough for me to go out for a quick bike ride in jeans and a T-shirt after dark.

Stop teasing me with that weather!
Last night 2" of snow and a low of 17F. Normal is 43 for a high, and we're supposed to average 38 this week - on the plus side it has been sunny - but sunny and snow covered everything makes for some very high contrast shots LOL
