A school shooting
I thought it could never happen
not in my town
not in Roseburg
but I guess pain, anger and fear
are not bound by what I think
or by the population of a town

Our kids are safe in our schools, right?... Right?
I mean, this IS Roseburg.
Rural Oregon, timber town, family values
Isn’t that why we live here?

not ever again…
never… from this day on
will our kids be safe in our schools
the “it couldn’t happen here” sense of security is gone
stolen by a child in pain

violence can happen anywhere… any time
it happened here today

Stories like this really stop me in my tracks. It almost makes me think, "Why did I bring my children into this world?" Though I couldn't imagine what my life would be like without them and I pray I'll never come to know. My heart goes out to your town and all those that have lost loved ones, especially to senseless violence. As well as to those children who's lives are so lost and full of pain that they are pushed to these limits. They are still only children. :(

Jenesis, happily no one was killed. astonishingly the kid who was shot 4 times is in stable condition. The shooter was 14. We haven't heard why it happened yet.

Even without a death, the kids in the school are traumatized of course. I have several co-workers who have kids in the school. Even if they didn't witness the shooting, they all heard the shots, saw people screaming and running and feared for their lives. For a long scary time all we knew was that there was a shooting at the school. The town was panicked. You couldn't get near the school, phone lines were busy.

And what a tragedy for this 14 year old boy and his family. Imagine the pain he must have been in to do something like this.

I'll post again when I learn more.

Exactly...we need to raise kids that have morals and are able to help change what others have screwed up!

My only hope is that there are enough of "Us" out there to overcome the "Others" and that it's not the other way around. :( But yes, you are both right and that is one of the best reasons of all.

Yes Faye, please keep us updated.

It's an uphill battle, but one certainly worth fighting for. We just talked about this in our bible study class the other night - the many obstacles and tests of faith to put yourself/kids out there.

Our thoughts & prayers are with you and your community Faye.
