Here's one I took but didn't enter - figured only cyclists would find it interesting and even then perhaps not.

So how many cyclists do we have amongst the photogs here? What's in your "stable"?

shoulda entered it ...

I ride, but not as much as I'd like. Presently, my bike is a Giant Warp DS2. It's a few years old but a very rock solid bike. I still have my old rigid suspension Specialized Rockhopper, I bought in 1991.

Cool photo too :-)

Heh - NOW you tell me. :-)

Guess I should have added my info - I have two bikes - a Trek 7700 FX hybrid, and an itty bitty LeMond Reno road bike. I tend to ride the LeMond more often these days, but take the Trek hybrid when I get the chance to do the Thursday Urban Assault - an easy-paced semi-group ride through downtown San Antonio in the evening. It's a hoot.

Ah, NOW I see why you asked about biking opportunities on the Cape. You're way out of my league... Here's how we can work it; I start you down here, point you in the right direction and send you towards Provincetown, with a waypoint I can meet you at and a final meeting point at P'town. We'll rack my shabby wheels and your Trekker on the Jeep (assuming you want to run the long haul on the Lemond), and after you cool down we can amble the Provincelands together. How's that?

99% of my transportation needs are served by my bicycle and I use it on a daily basis. I do not own an automobile so I use the bicycle for commuting, touring, leisure rides and photo-ops. For touring I load the bike with tent, sleeping bag, clothes and other camping equipment and head out for regional parks, hostels and B&Bs. When I go out on a photo shoot I carry my gear in a backpack and fannie pack, as well as carry my tripod. It's quite heavy and I feel like a pack mule. I ride in rain and snow as well, and have ridden in blizzards and heavy downpours. Bicycling and photography are equally serious endeavors and passions for me.

I love cycling. I am not very fast though, maybe one day I can get there. Anyway right now I have a Trek 2100 that I ride, love the bike. I also have a Trek 1000c(was my first bike) that I need to get rid of somehow. Will probably just end up giving it away sometime. :D

I just started riding in the MS150 every October. It is a ride for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to help raise money. It is a 2 day ride that covers 75 miles each day. Though this past year they had to drop it down to only a 1 day ride because of the hurricane. :(

Oh, you *so* have a deal! Sounds wonderful! And will sound even better when it's late summer/early fall and hotter than you-know-what in my neck of the woods... Can I bring friends? They'd all likely be females... :-)

You have a Jeep?? I miss my Jeep... can't convince myself to get another one just yet as I currently have two (2) cars - one's a convertible and one's a pickup and both are paid for. Granted, a Jeep would conceivably replace both, but it doesn't do very well at hauling dirt. Pickup is really quite good for that (and for hauling bikes). I suppose I could rent a truck for dirt, huh?

I like the shot, but it's too clean. You obviously haven't been riding in a while. I have a Cannondale T-1000. Purchased it over a decade ago. Unfortunately it has a flat and I broke my pump (and it's only 30 degrees and snowing right now).

Olyuzi - I'm envious! I'd love to use my bike more for everyday transportation but the area I live is SO spread out it's hard to do within timeframes available. I do plan to start riding to and from work more often - it's not that far and I do have a few routes I can take to stay away from the majority of the clueless automobile drivers... I do take my camera in a backpack with me from time to time when I ride. I get some of my favorite shots that way!

Turdave - I'm not fast either. In fact, I'm quite slow. And I got started with the whole addiction when an officemate proposed we do the MS 150 from San Antonio to Corpus Christi. So I bought the hybrid in August, and did the ride the first weekend in October. That was over a year ago and I'm totally hooked. :-) We did it again this past fall, and this spring I'm doing the Tour de Cure - a ride from San Antonio to Austin with different mileage options up to 150 miles in two days.

An older Jeep Grand Cherokee, a '93, not the "cool" Wrangler/CJ-7 type. It works though.

Bring friends? Our date is becoming a pajama party? Fine by me, but consider the sleeping options carefully; I got 2 queen beds, one of which I occupy, and a couch that can sleep one. I'm flexible how they get shared out.

Summer's a bitch around here; the place is MOBBED. Before Memorial Day or after Labor Day is your best bet. Unless you like mobs. Serious mobs. Driving times increase by double or triple, restaurants have nasty waits, the bike trails need traffic cops, you get the idea...

Heh! One of the reasons I took the picture (other than it looked cool in the evening sunshine) was *because* it was clean - had just been to the shop for it's one-year checkup and a new chain, and they cleaned the cassette. And gotta tell ya, a new chain makes all the difference in the world!

Hey, a Jeep's a Jeep. I've had a Grand, a Cherokee, and a Wrangler. My brother is on Jeep #7 and he sold #'s 5 and 6 to friends so they could all go Jeeping together. It's a Jeep thing...

After Labor Day is fine. We don't turn off the A/C here until late December if it's a good year....

Halo! Great image but I agree, too clean :P

I have a few in my "stable". My pride and joy is my Trek 5500 OCLV USPS edition (2000 version). I also have a duelly in my Santa Cruz and a couple of hardtails - a Stumpjumper and a Hookoo-e-koo :)

I've got a Specialized M2. I used to be a strictly road biker until my Puch was stolen from the dock where I used to live on my sailboat. I couldn't find road bikes for rent while I shopped for a replacement (I really liked the Puch) so I rented beach cruisers in the interim. I quickly realized the kind of abuse they could take going offroad, in the sand, and down flights of steps. So I started looking at mountain bikes and never looked back. I ride my M2 off and on the road. I am shopping for a sling pack to carry my camera while biking so that it will be easily accessible when I stop for a shot.

I was a cyclist for a number of years. I no longer ride competitively. I have 4 bikes, one cheapy mountain bike, one junk lil kid bike to mess around on... an olmo steel frame for riding on the track, and a litespeed ultimate titanium frame with a lot of nice components for the road.

I ride, but not road. I don't set aside huge lengths of time to ride at a time, so I don't end up riding singletrack much either.

I have a Specialized hardrock with some SRAM components and a MX pro 120mm, but it neeeds new brakes and wheelset.

But I mostly ride my DK Fury BMX cruiser, which is soon to be replaced by a real 20". Probably an Eastern Jane, and some Odyssey J.C. pedals like I have now, possibly the magnesium ones but I can't decide if the sealed mag's are worth $45 more than the unsealed aluminum. I'd like an S&M Light as F**k, but to build it up with good parts would be like ~$1k, and that Eastern is plenty for me anyway.

Some sweet bikes out there, folks! I've been told I need to branch out and get a mountain bike. Not sure about that. I'm not a spring chicken any more so broken bones would take a bit longer to heal, and worst of all, I couldn't ride if I broke something! Texas is a decent place to ride roads - lots of back country ones though the paving on those often leaves a LOT to be desired. It's fairly flat, though not as flat as you'd think once you start riding. The wind often acts as a hill in its own way.

Rikki - did you get a glimpse of the Amgen Tour at all? I realize road racing is a "fringe" sport, but come on - it's in the US, and US riders are kickin' butt, and we get a single hour of coverage on ESPN2 in the middle of the night?? I'm a bit afraid to see how OLN's coverage of the Tour DAY France (*Bob Roll*) gets cut now that that Lance fellow isn't riding anymore. It's been sweet having TV coverage after following the TdF via internet for years.

yakatme - let me know what you find as a sling. I'm currently using a Camelbak Blowfish (without the bladder) as my camera bag. It's quite adequate but you do have to take it off to get at the camera.

Mephisto - I have a very good friend who just moved to Germany - he's loving the hills there! He has two Litespeeds - a Vortex and an Ultimate.

Nice to hear about all the bikes! Happy riding!

count me in. giant tcr0 (you gotta love dura-ace) and a trusty old hardtail marin mtb cutomised into a sort of 'cross bike. this is the bike that threw me off several years back and put me in hospital for a couple of months with a busted spine! great sport aint it?

used to ride a bit with henk vogels and lucy tyler before they went off and got famous..(when you don't win much yourself you gotta name-drop instead!)

Nice to see there are lots of cyclists out there.
Perhaps we could lobby for a cycling only challenge. : )
I have a steel LeMond road bike with average at best components, but it gets me from Seattle WA. to Portland OR. every year in relative comfort and decent average speed when I ride the STP classic. I would love to upgrade to the new Ultegra 10 spd grouppo.
I also have a full float Aluminum Mountian bike with all XT parts. a real blast, I can\'t wait for the snow line to rise enough to get back into the mountians on it. Bike number three is my old College commuter bike that I have stripped and turned it into a direct drive track bike.
She isn\'t pretty and sexy like all the shiny new bikes out there on the velodrome but she has a history and she is fun to ride again.
I have a friend that is going to be riding for the Starbucks team this year and I am looking forward to photographing some of her events. Anyone out there who has any tips on shooting a bike race I would be interested in gleaning some knowledge.
