That's great work and skill.

I know that one family photo that I worked on took me well over 10 hours to reconstruct from the years of neglect and damage that it recieved from being poorly cared for. They must be highly, highly skilled with great equipment to be able to fly through a repair job like that.

i hope i'm not hijacking your thread. i did a little more research on this and contacted the people that are running the photo rescue operation.

i've offered to take on a batch of photographs myself, and told them about DPC and asked if it was ok if i posted their information. here are the messages i've received:

Hi Rob!

Help is always appreciated!

What I am doing right now is sending batches of photos from each
family to individuals. We have done all of our taking in and been
working on what we have, and are slowly dwindling away at the pack.
Can I send you a batch? Anyone else interested can contact us as
well... we're hoping to get all of the orders done in the next week,
so I just need to know how many they can handle for a 2 day
turnaround, whether they can take moderate or difficult, and an email
address to send them to!

how big are the 'packets'....not sure I can do the 2 day turnaround this weekend.....is it just 'clean-up' photo work??? I'd love to but don't want to get something I can't complete timely.

I just got a reply back saying the packets come in 2-8 photos. You just let them know what you think you can do.

Please don't shoot me for saying this, but a suspicious thought crossed my mind - what if some crook had realized that he has a huge, FREE workforce out there for his restoration business, all he has to do is tug on some heart strings and presto!

Nah..... this is for real and legitimate, right?

I would say 110% yes. Dave Ellis works for the Free Lance-Star paper here in Fredericksburg, VA. I've only had contact with him once before, but he was very polite and professional.

wow...looking at all profiles of the people who have responded, my skills are not equivalent....(but I do have some!!) I asked for a small packet. I'll scream for advise if needed! But I really want to help!! I helped once for a local family who had items damaged in a fire.

Just sent them an e-mail offering my assistance as well. I've felt that I hadn't done enough for the victims down there and this is something that I think many of us are very well suited for. Hopefully, we'll be able to give them a big boost! Thank you for posting this!
