A quick and easy way is to sell pictures thru microstock sites such as shutterstock.

Beginning February 1, 2006 Fotolia will pay 0.20 credits for EVERY image uploaded and accepted by our editing team. No thresholds, and a simple calculation: 1 accepted picture in Febuary = 0.20 credits for the photographer. Money for just uploaded before even selling anything.

Couple more links below :)

I've been waiting for about a week now to hear if fotolia accepted my images. I guess maybe they're being flooded with uploads because of that new policy.

What do you like to shoot? Weddings? news stories? Studio portraits? Still life, fasion, life style, aerials, etc...?

I'm sure everyone has a different opinion on the "best" way. Most of the other comments here point you to microstock. That's one option. (but is 20 cents per download the best for you?) Stock can be a great way to make a little cash, but do your homework first. There are plenty of threads here on microstock vs macrostock. Micro, meaning you earn roughly 20 cents per download, but over time numerous downloads add up. "Macro" sites pay anywhere from $30 to $3000 or up per sale depending on usage and license type (RF vs RM). Sales in the 100's are more common. I prefer macro, but that's what works for me.

Besides all the micro sites already mentioned, you may want to check out some of the macro ones:

Alamy, Acclaim, myloupe, and of course the two industry giants Corbis and Getty. If you specialize there are markets for just food, medicine, agriculture, and probably anything else you can think of.

Good luck,
John

I have slightly over 100 images on various sites and have almost made back 1/2 of the price of my dSLR. Most images were taken with 3 megapixel cameras, so it's been worth it.

I have been making about $5.00 / picture/ year on what I have uploaded at the various micro stock agencies. However, the big 4 bring in basically all the income. They are

Shutterstock
Fotolia
Dreamstime
Can Stock Photo
Istock,

Ok, well that was 5. Fotolia is actually getting pretty good, they also offer a 20 cent payment for every accepted file which is a pretty good offer.

Anyhow, so if you have 100 images accept that means (according to my figures) that you would make about $500/year. 1000 images would be $5000 images per year.. and so on.

This is getting to be two threads on the same subject here :S

The other one has a better title, but I guess this one is about just making money, not neccesarily about micro stocks.
Anyhow.. you can also check out my micro stock discussion group if you are interested

I am new to microstok - about 3 motnhs, but so far I am pleased with the results. I don't have a lot of photos posted yet, but as I add more, my downloads seem to increase proportionally. I expect this so be a nice side income for me in a year from now )it will take me that long to get my portfolio to a 1000 pictures). I am with the following sites:

ShutterStock
iStockPhoto
Dreamstime
Big Stock Photo
123 Royalty Free Fotolia

I just barely got accepted by ShutterStock, but it is fast becoming my best seller. I highly recommend this site.

123 Royalty Free started well for me but has dropped off a lot lately. They also require 6 MP files.

Fotolia is just getting started for me. Things are still pretty slow but picking up. I think it is an up and comer though. They have spent a lot of money growing their site and providing other promotions.

Dreamstime was slow for me at the start, but seems to be picking up a lot.

Big Stock Photo is slow and steady for me. I like how easy it is to work with them.

iStock is also slow and steady. Many report great success with this site. I have eitehr not reached that point yet, or my pictures don't match what the designers on the site want. I think it will work out though.

All of these have been good to work with for me. Each seems to have its pros and cons. I hope that helps a bit.

I've had photos accepted at Fotolia since 2/1, and I don't see anything about having .20 per picture.

I know when I submitted my photos in Feb, there was a check box for me to select to say that I am taking advantage of the Feb Special, but I don't see anything in my account either about the money. However, I think they stated a date by which they would make the payout. I am suspecting that it is any day now. I took advantage of the special in Jan. and they added that money to my account on Feb. 9.

I'm just getting started with stock and my portfolio is small. Which are the agencies that do not have an exclusivity policy? I apologize if this has been covered.
