Hi, sorry if this is already intensively covered, I just can't find anything on it and am getting stressed out here :-)

Anyways, what's the take on submitting photos for Free Study challenges that you've already put in your portfolio for some time? Of course the time is very limited since it's only a Free Study so... what's your oppinion?

free study is a month long, and its for photos taken during that time period, and i dont think it would be etiquette to submit a photo in your portfolio.

According to the rules, you can submit it, so long as it has not been submitted to a different challenge.

It's generally frowned upon, but if you do, move it to your workshop folder so it will not be visible during the voting period

The biggest concern is anonymity in your submissions to prevent biased voting.

This etiquette dictates that you only submit images that have never been published anywhere else and therefore not personally identifiable to insure this does not happen.

Right or wrong, voters are assumed to be shallow and unable to vote accurately with that information. Unfortunately, that is probably correct.

PS: That is why I send all my friends email telling them which image of mine to give a 10. LOL!!!!

The rules don't prohibit this, but some voters frown on this, as they value anonymity, and may cast their votes accordingly.

If it was in your portfolio but doesn't have many views, I would not worry too much about it; but if it has gotten a lot of attention (because you asked people to look at it, for example in another forum thread) then you may want to find another entry.

If you do choose to enter an image from your portfolio, just hide it for the duration of the challenge. To do this you do not have to move it to your workshop. You can just select it then choose 'hide selection'. By hiding a selection it also temporarily removes it from your DPC Prints storefront.

Many thanks.

i prefer anonymity without question. Like in the Best of 2005, it just turned me off to see people submit stuff that everyone has seen. I didn't do it for just that reason. A slight form of favourtism/cheating in my opinion. To me it comes off as boring and advantageous.

The annual best of challenges are an entirely different animal. Do you really expect people to wait until 2007 to post their best photos taken this year, because we might run a best of 2006 challenge? Isn't the whole purpose of a portfolio to showcase one's best work?

What Terry said.

I have an image that is clearly my "best of January" shot, but it was widely discussed in here. I was surprised to find out how well it was received. I can't, in conscience, submit it to this challenge, so I have chosen an unrelated image.

What the wise men said... I do not even post the related pics before the challenge is over. The joke is, however, most people have a very distinctive signature be it style, processing, location etc. One must rely on your own sense of justice, not anything else. Recently sajin and I have been shooting together and sharing our thoughts and ideas. The influence and the 'unique' location has an interesting result... we get a lot of comments where people venture in the wrong direction, "gibun is it you?" is not always gibun...;-)=

So it's bound to get marked down by you and others, cancelling out any advantage or favourtism.

So it isn't an advantage. Glad we cleared that up ;)
