| so what is the differences between DPC and the other photo contest site? Just curious. |

Is ANYone else having a problem viewing "Her winning entry"? I can get to the "Digi photo contest" link but not the "entry" link. Second time tonight I've tried and it times out everytime.
Maybe I'm not meant to see it? :p

//www.digitalphotocontest.com is a paid entry contest site. There are numerous categories (people, BW, macro/abstract/action/journalism, digital art, still life, travel/architecture, scenic, landscape/nature, animals, and panorama). You are allowed to submit up to 5 photos a day. Each day, a Photo of the Day is chosen in each category by an anonomous panel of judges (consisting of site members who have at least 15 POTD under their belts). During the first 5 days of the following month, all site members vote, choosing one POTD in each category from all the daily winners from the previous month. The first, second, and third places win prizes, which vary from Lowepro bags, photo printers, alien skin software, inkjet goodies printing supplies, lighting systems, etc.
I won a POTD with my very first entry there... I thought, WOW this is easy... I thought I would rack up lots of winners. Well, the cometition is very steep there. In a year, I have won 5 POTD's and won third place in the BW category once.
They also have a critique site, where you can submit photos for critique. They also have a theme contest with a $500 cash prize. aThe current theme is Adventure...
You are allowed to spot edit to fix small imperfections, but highly modified photos need to be submitted to the Digital Art category.
...ummmm, that's about it!

Yeah, I won POTD with my first entry there too, but nothing since. It's not so easy, and there isn't as much reward because you don't have an "update scores" button to push: ) . You really have no idea how your shot did unless it's ranked (1st, 2nd, 3rd) by at least one judge. No comments either. I'm getting kind of disillusioned over there, I don't feel like it helps me improve as I have no idea what was liked or not about it (in the POTD contest).

Terry, it was timing out. I just tried again, and this time while the page was loading I shut down ZoneAlarm (firewall) and that allowed the page to display correctly.
That page is trying to leave a 3rd party cookie which is usually used to track a user's viewing habits, etc. I turned off the blocking of this and that allows the page works. :) FYI.
