Today, I asked a Public Relations official for access beyond that which the general public gets at a Rodeo tomorrow. She said that she can do so when I provide her with my credentials. Where do I get these credentials? Do they exist for Freelance Photographers? I don't have any business cards yet, and I am not sure that they would suffice if I did.
I replied "OK" because I didn't want to sound ignorant (then vs. now lol). Any ideas as to how I can pull this off for tomorrow or Sunday?

Thanks

Contact your local police department, they can provide you with city issued Press Creditentials as a freelance photographer.

I am not positive on this, but I believe you would have to be there for some sort of publication (newspaper, magazine). Maybe you could call up your newspaper and tell them the situation and that you would be willing to shoot the event for them.

fotoman forever: I'll try that tomorrow morning.

JoshuaM: I would think that before any publication would risk their name on somebody, they would want to know who they are backing wouldn't they. I, myself, would be careful about issuing credentials to just anybody.

You are probably right; like I said, was not positive. I think it would be worth a try though. Especially so if you have a decent portfolio you could show them, or if you would like to do more freelance work in the future for a newspaper.

If it's a PBR event, forget it. PRCA seems to be a lot more lenient.

PBR won't let freelancers in to shoot. In fact, even if your with a magazine they own the copyright on anyhting shot there, then allow you to use it in your magazine. They make you sign a form.

Your topic was intesting to me and I just found this. www.aipress.com

What the heck I'm gonna try it. I will report back on success or failure.

To me, this is no better than a mail order diploma. I would think the people signing in photographers, at least at large events, would be wise to your "credentials". Plus, the documents look very hoaky to me.

But I'm sure someone is making a lot of money off of it.

Definitely would not pay for press credentials... when you can get them for free. I have a city issued Media Pass I keep in my camera bag that will get me everywhere I wanna be.

They didnt post an image of the credentials. If they did could you send a link? And you may be right you know the old addage "a fool and his money are soon parted". Well Im betting on the fool. LOL

Best Regards

P.S I got a buddy who is a sheriff's detective I will check with him as well, if thats all it takes. Thanks Again!

Friends of mine desperately wanted to see the final Leafs game at Maple Leaf Gardens. Being clever PSers, they created "press badges" from a fictional out of town paper. If memory serves they even got them laminated :)
It worked...Silly boys and their hockey :)

Getting 'credentials' is going to constitute more than just showing up with some magical certificate or badge that says you're allowed to get in. Credentials are called in, your name will be put on a list, then when you show up with the proper ID, you will be allowed in. Good luck.

O dont get me wrong! I wasnt recommending that trick! I would imagine stunts like that could perhaps put a mark on your name for future.
Just a silly story..perhaps ya gotta be Canadian to appreciate the burning desire to have been at that game :)
I would guess going to the cops or the city would be more effective, uv course!

I just woke up to find this wealth of information regarding my question. It seems that obtaining thses credentials quickly is not going to happen, but I'll get it done right now that I know how to go about it.

Thanks very much.
