I did much the same. Soooooooooooooo hope I made the right choice. So hard to know what the voters want.

So are obvious zoo shots any closer to the challenge than pictures of flowers? How do we vote a compotent shot that is clearly in voilation of the challenge?
01/25/2006 12:35:41 AM · #16
The topic of how to vote when 'you' clearly feel the image DNMC has come up alot lately.

The answer is vote the way you feel you should. Everyone interprets the challenge differently (even something that seems very clear in the description).

I had 2 votes with an average score of 6. A third voter came and now I have a score of 5.6. Sigh
01/25/2006 12:47:15 AM · #18
Not to be picky, but you can't have 5.6 with three votes. 5.6667 perhaps?

You guys have really outdone yourselves with the Wildlife challenge. I didn't enter this one... but almost every image that's popped up in my voting has been amazing. :):)

With as much effort as I put into getting WILDLIFE shots (and I got three good candidates), I am absolutely disgusted with the zoo shots!

This is the first challenge I've entered. Where do you go to find out how many votes were cast and what points you've received? Thanks.

If your idea of the challenge description precludes Zoo shots, well vote them lower for not meeting the challenge.

For registered users it updates automatically once an hour. Go to your preferences and check the box to show your entry on the home page in the left hand column.

Paid members have the infamous update button and can update anytime.

edit: what scores we've received is just a guess from a calculation based on the average score and number of votes and the changes we see when we hit the update button.

I certainly will, and I hope everybody else will as well. Especially the photographers whose entries that I see are of great shots of wildlife in a natural environment.

I merely question the lions, tigers, lemurs, and giraffes that don't have enough of a background to determine whether or not they are in their natural environment. And regarding these exotic animals, I wonder how many DPC'ers actually went to Africa, India, and Madagascar within the last week. I went to the Everglades twice this week and can provide at least a dozen images that would fit "natural environment" better.

What I REALLY have a problem with is the backgrounds that are of the fake rock made of concrete that is seen in zoos. Nobody can dispute that this kind of environment is not "natural for wildlife".

The last Wildlife challenge, the top 2 were zoo shots.
