Hi everyone! I am new in here. First i would like to say that this is a wonderful site and i really like to look at all the fantastic photos you guys have taken.

Now to the point. I took a picture of a round sculpture for the "round" challange. I was really pleased with it thinking other people would like it to. But in the back of my head i had a feeling that it was wrong to take a photo of somene elses artwork. When I read the rules in here it was clear, you are not allowed to submit pictures of someone elses (or your own) artwork. This includes sculptures. I had to forget my sculpture picture:(

When I started to vote today i was surprised to see several pictures of sculptures. Now I wonder if all of them will be disqualified, or was i a little strict in my reading of the rules?

That would get pretty limiting. A buidling is an architects artwork. Everything we see is someone elses art. Clothing, food, cars...name it.

The rule says :

Artwork. Literal photographic representations of the entirety of existing works of art (including your own) are not considered acceptable submissions, however creative depictions or interpretations are permissible. This includes, but is not limited to paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, and computer artwork.

My take on this is if I take a picture of a sculpture, flat on in flat light this is not allowed as I'm using the work to create my impact.. If I add my own angle, perspective and lighting I am 'adding' or 'changing' the work and this is OK.. IMHO

I don't understand this part of the rules either.... At the round challenge I think I saw a pic taken inside a museum... that could be DQ because that rule?

I think (but could be wrong) that Alpine has it more or less right. If your picture shows nothing but the artwork, it would probably get DQed. If you show the artwork within it's environment, add your own angles or lighting, or otherwise "enhance" it, then you should be ok.

I understand the artwork rule just as alpine has put it, as well.

If it were a sculpture it would be quite difficult to take a picture of its entirety, because there is a backside to most of them. A photo usually only shows one side, or at best 50% of the work. A painting as an example is flat so one could do a pretty good job of reproducing it in its entirety. I think entirety is the key word here. Oh well that's my take on it anyway, for what it's worth.
