hi --

i'm in the market for a new webhost and i would like to hear if anyone out there has had any success with theirs. here's a quick hitlist of what i need:

- ability to host multiple domains (small, but not all pointing to the same site)
- GOOD webmail
- web programming language support (i really have no preference -- anything from php to asp to cold fusion is fine)
- web database access (access db's are OK, mysql is even better)

really, that's about it. i have a number of small enterprises that need to be hosted and my current provider (1 and 1) absolutely sucks.

thanks!

I'm using m6.net and it seems to have everything you're asking for. I'm not doing much with it at the moment, but it seems to be ok.

MK set me up with //www.vervehosting.com they seem to be good, and have all that jazz.

I haven't tried the webmail yet though...

Ipowerweb.com has some great packages and are very affordable ($7.95/month). You can do multiple subdomains, or pointed domains for an additional $1.00 per month. You also have FTP services, POP3 accounts with an easy to use webmail interface. The user interface is very simple (vdeck) and you also have MySQL databases, chat, phpBB, e-commerce, etc etc etc. Lots of bang for the buck.

I've been using them for a couple of months for my personal sites and will be switching our company site over in the next couple of months. The only negative thing is the customer service. Customer service is not very good (you get what you pay for). I will have to say though, the problems I've had (most of which I created for myself) have been resolved within 48 hours. I know that's not great service, but then again how much do you expect for $8 per month.

I am using Brinkster.com, I would recomend them. Live support 24/7 everyday.
Plenty of space and not expensive, if you need to open a port or do any changes you just go to live chat and ask what you need for and they will fix it. You can see different plans on the web page.
Here is the link to BrinksterBrinkster.com

The web mail is good and like the plan I am buying I get 400 Email addresses each with 50MB.

I run several sites off one Virtual Dedicated Server on GoDaddy. I've never had a single problem with the service. Supports PHP/MySQL, super reliable. I can host up to 20 domans right now under one Plesk account... can host up to 100 for an extra $5 a month. Not a bad deal at all. I save a lot of money not having seperate hosting accounts. And it's as flexible as having my own server.

ok, here's my thing with them. nowhere on their site does it tell you what kind of servers they have (windows/linux). at least, not that i could find.

i think that's kind of crucial, so... what up wit' dat?

keep the suggestions rollin'!

//www.wwwserver.co.uk are VERY cheap but also reliable.
I used to use them, went to ChicagoWebs, put up with 2 years of appalling service from ChicagoWebs, then went back to wwwserver.

Not sure why it's crucial but: I believe they're linux, but they support Frontpage extensions... You could always PM MK about that.

I just point domains there and upload files n stuff. What do I know. :O)

Someone here turned me on to Site Ground and I'm very happy with them and their customer service. The have lots of goodies, too...everything you could need including 10 databases.

P.S. I bought my extra domains at 1&1 because they are half the cost. Then I use Zone Edit for DNS.

Me.

I have a web hosting business (sort of). Basically I'm a reseller through Hostdepartment.com

I don't really have a homepage (just a template site 2by2hosting.com )

I was going to go full bore into the hosting business but it's really not my passion anymore so I just keep it as a side business. Before I opened my business I was working in tech support for a large hosting company so I know most of the ins and outs of the business. If you're interested just let me know, I can hook you up with anything you want (I'll make a package for you for $3 a month or something just to help cover my costs). We have windows and freeBSD servers. 24 hour support and I can help you out with server languages like ASP any time you want.

I know this sounds rinky dink the way I'm describing it, but it is very reliable and you'd get personalized support. I'm just having a really bad day today so am having trouble getting enthusiastic about much of anything. I promise I'd be much more professional if you were requesting support though ;)

This offer is open to anyone who wants it. Just PM me or whatever.

OS isn't really relevant unless you need a certain kind of support... ie, if you want Microsoft Acees DB or .NET support you are gonna want to have a Windows based OS.

Just my $.02 US currency.

I got my webhosting through Icana (or something like that) for $2.50 per month. (host 4 domains, unlimited sub-domains, all kinds of stuff)

I found it on e-bay LOL

This may not be the same place, but check this listing out. Ebay Listing

You beat me to it, Jen.I highly suggest SiteGround. The best I have come across in over 6 years of dealing with hosting companies.

Yes, you can register your domains at 1and1.com cheaper, but imho, it's worth the extra $5 bucks a year to be able to manage everything in one place. Plus with SiteGround, they have the best customer support I have seen. Your questions are answered almost immediately.

hasweb.com

does all you said plus more but you can see the list on the site - and probably for less cost for most everything already listed

I have used them for years and host a number of other peoples sites on them - no complaints.

I've been using //pair.com for nearly 10 years. No disappointments. They have good rates and they don't obscure the nuts and bolts by trying to spoonfeed you features. I have a few phpBB's running and several domains. And they recently added PairNic which makes for tidy maintenance and renewals.

Good Luck.

I have used several hosts over the years. I am currently using ixwebhosting.com I am very happy with them. Multiple domains, MSSQL, MySQL, PgSQL, good web mail, ssl, php, asp (on the windows2003 servers. They have a good plan to host 6 domains, 5000 email addresses, 50 databases, 20GB of hosting space, and 20 sub-domains for 8.95 a month. It is also listed #1 on thehostingchart.com

Ah yes, now I remember. It was you, Chris. ;-) You told me the same thing about the domains and I'm sure it would be easier, but...I'm cheap. :-)

I should thank you for suggesting Site Ground. I have been extremely happy with them and you're right, their CS is amazing. Most of my questions have been answered in under 5 minutes.

Check 'em out!

I'll second Pair.com. I am really picky about my service to the point of anal and I am very pleased with them still after several years of service.

Adding one more to the list :)
My brother runs a hosting business here in Australia. (The servers are in Florida). He has all the things you need and exceptional service. The exchange rates work in your favour when buying from an Australian company. I don't know how the rates compare but his service is certainly good value here. Marken Hosting
