hi train :) don't withdraw. that is just one comment out of a whole lots of votes to come. just remove your reference to your image and let the voting process move on. don't let one bad apple ruin the experience for everyone else. i saw your image and i thought it was an out of the box entry which is good. just stick with it ;)

I'm sorry that you feel this way. I'm sorry that you don't appreciate this person's opinion. I'm sorry that you think his opinion is silly. I'm sorry that you decided to call them out in the public. I hope you reconsider...

I don't really think you can do that.

to add: i wouldn't really take his comment to heart. that's his own personal opinion and he has the right to that ;)

but it's completely insolent towards the demand of the challenge.
is what he said
I am not and never have been insolent towards a challenge
anyone can take an image of a road I thought it had a deeper meaning anyway I have done it now

Hey at least your not the only one who want's out. These people can not and will not think any differently as the challenge given. If u say Road to them, than road it is with no figurative meaning whatsoever.

By posting this, you're destroying the anonymity of your shot with specific references to the shot in question. Voting is in progress. If I were you, I would edit your post and remove those specefic references now before they're edited by SC later.

Sorry to hear about that.

And it's not too late to have a change of heart. Send another note to SC and you will probably not be pulled...

Sally,

You can report the comment using the tickets. Please try to keep your image anonymous in the forums though.

You may ask for a self-DQ as long as you haven't had another DQ for any reason in 25 challenges submissions. Remember thought that in this case it is the commenters problem, not yours.

I hope you don't mind, but I will edit your posts to keep the entry anonymous.

Actually I thought the image was was a bit of a stretch for this challenge, but you put it in and now you have to live with it. Bear Music aka Robert once put this image in to a Self Portrait challenge. Great picture, but it was a stretch for the challenge. It finished 243 out of 244. I don't believe he got too pissed about it.

You have a right to venture out of the box as far as you please, but don't expect everyone to "get it".

I do not usually post to forum threads but felt the need to post a response this time. I have received one comment so far on my "Signs" entry and it is from the same person who made the comment you are upset about. It is easily said not the greatest comment I have ever received - but certainly not the worse either. It is lengthy and opinionated - but I would have rather received it than not. I can understand your personal offense at the particular comment that you received concerning your daughter - but remember there is no way this voter can have that information - just like they do not know the relationship concerning my entry and how much it means to me. I just think that as far as comments go it's not that bad. I'm surprised that after 2 years of membership, almost 200 challenge entries, several ribbons and honorable mentions later - you would feel the need to pull an entry that obviously means so much to you over one comment. I'm surprised that someone with your obvious talent and history here at DPC would find it necessary to draw this attention by ousting this commentor's comment and pulling an actual entry - especially if this entry in particular means that much to you. Wouldn't you care to see what the next several day's worth of comments could be? Would you rather have no comments at all? I kind of in a way think your image should be pulled now that you have drawn so much attention to it. Please don't take offense - anybody - just my thoughts :)

edit to remove commentor's name and to add that the comment I received was a bit nicer than the one you received - they did state that they liked my image - and overall it was a helpful comment :)

And just to do my official duty, remember that if you get a comment that is offensive, report it to SC via tickets - but please don't post it to the public forums.

Sally, you're an awesome photographer, I can understand how you feel, but you shouldn't let this comment get to you so much, the commenter gave an opinion, albeit a little course, but he obviously just didn't 'get it', try to just see it as that, he didn't know your thoughts on your entry. It happens when you go 'out of the box' :-) It takes a mind with broad horizons to 'receive' such an image. A lot of folks won't get it, but when you get a comment from one that does, and likes it, it makes up for a lot of the ones that don't. :-) (I think anyways!)

Maybe this will help make you feel a little bit better: this was the first photo that I put in my favs on DPC-

I too am slightly surprised at the lack of creativity in this competition. When I saw the N/A description, and the subsequent forum conversation quoting dictionary entries and all the subtle meanings of "Road" and "Signs" I thought for sure there would be some creative interpretations. Consequently my photo is also getting railed, but unlike yours I think it's also based on its lack of technical merit. :)

My advice is not to pull out because I suspect the people that are voting at obscure hours of the morning are not in the cheeriest of moods. Give it a few days. :)

Is that a nice way of saying that first nite voters suck?

Dude, I don't know about 'Roads', but I've never agreed with you more in 'Signs' !!!

In fact, I'll echo it- First nite voters suck! :-P
