Nice!

A couple of suggestions:

Set your AV mode for F3.5 or F4.0. I found that diffraction issues scrap a lot of fine detail beyond that. I leave mine at F4.0 most of the time. I almost never allow the camera to shoot at anything over F5.6. I did a bit of a test and found noticeable softness creeping in at that point.

Try not to use more than ISO 100 (even 200 can be noisy at times)

Don't be afraid of all that zoom. If it's a bright day, enjoy your 420mm. The lens is good enough that you can get fairly sharp results even at that point.

Obviously, as it is a small sensor P&S, try to shoot things that have balanced lighting and as much light as possible.

Turn your IS to shoot-only mode. Especially if you are going to take a lot of shots. Heat in the sensor increases noise. Tripod shots should be taken with IS off. Same goes for long shutter speeds.

Be very careful with that lens-cap. I don't find that mine falls off too often, but I do find that it can be knocked easily.

Have an extra set of batteries kicking around. This camera is actually pretty durn nice once you get used to it and it is easy to shoot a lot of pics (I get 600-750 or more on a charge of batteries but it's easy to shoot more than that too. I have 3GB of SD now), but the power of using AA is that you won't get caught without power. You might get caught without a 7-11 nearby though.

If you shoot by yourself, get to learn how to use the Intervalometer for self portraits and tripod mounted composite shots.

That's about it I think. Have fun with it!
