heh, didn't see this before actuall,

I like the composition of the one with the white bg, but you can't see the flame.

I really like the one with the ghostly little girl in it.

I also like the one with the white background.

I like the one with the girl too. Might be better if the flame wasnt actually in the shot, but the flame might have been your subject..

It's interesting, I can almost see you learning as I go through the 6 images (although, I realize, that this may not be the order you shot them in). The first and second are both interesting but nothing seems to be in focus in either. The third is interesting (and a bit creepy) with the "ghost" girl. The third, however, suffers from image compression, it looks like. The fourth image is when I feel that you're really starting to get comfortable with it all as everything is composed nicely and everything is in sharp focus. I'll have to agree that the background is a bit bright and drowns out the flame if there is one. The fifth and sixth image shows that you're more comfortable, where you're experimenting more with DOF. Great study and sequence. :)

You couldn't be more right about the experience. They are in the order of progression and I was learning.

The white background is a bit bright... i will work on bring it down or changing the gradient. I like that you can't see the flame, but the tip of the wick is red like its hot and it was hot.

The girl is actually the back of a book sitting on our coffee table, the candle was the only lighting.

Thanks for all the comments.. I am going to go back and work on #3.

Thanks,

Okay, good, so I wasn't crazy. I did kind of feel that the shadows where a bit off on her, especially around the nose. I started to type out a comment about that but left it out since my post was already getting a bit wordy.

Please do post back with your studies of #3; I can't wait to see them. :)
