New software for the workflow in the works by Adobe.
Need Mac users to do a beta test and let us at DPC know what its like is it worth it. Picture A Day users will love it from what I read.

Looks cool, thanks for posting this. Adobe is probably trying to keep people from steering over to Mac's new "Aperture" program.

Tried it...love it so far...fast and intuitive interface...Now depending on the price this is a piece of software I'd add as a complement to PS.

Too bad Aperture did not have a public beta to try.

Macromedia eh?

*hmmm*

I wonder if this was in Macromedia's development house or Adobe's. (If it was in M's I could see it having been an additional incentive for buying Macromedia.)

You do know that Adobe owns them , right? ;o)

Downloading it now.

DOH!!!

You need 10.4 or higher to run.

I'm on 10.3.9. Crap!

Luminous Landscape has a nice write-up/review on Lightroom. First Look

I think Apple has a serious problem for Aperture and the Windows world will get a great new tool.

Of course...

But it is always curious to know from out of which "developer house" this has arisen. I believe it was Adobe. Though it's presented in the (formerly Macromedia) Labs.

Yes, I'm well aware of Adobe's purchase of Macromedia. I am a ColdFusion/Flash developer. ColdFusion used to be the product of Allaire, then merged with Macromedia which then merged with Adobe. (I wonder if Adobe will merge with Google next?)

...then what incentive and what benefit would there be to by Macromedia?

I'm tending toward Brent's camp on this. I think Macromedia may have had this in development and Adobe wanted it. The Macromedia acquisition makes much more sense in that light.
Interesting, though, that the first public beta is for Mac only. I would not have expected that out of the former Macromedia, but from Adobe it makes sense. Also, Adobe isn't known for public betas; either they needed to get some market "buzz" going, or we're seeing Macromedia's influence.

The lack of support for Adobe's own .PSD format adds credibility to that scenario.

Adobe wanted to stick it to Aperture! LOL. Unless Apple acts really fast by improving Aperture (the current version of which I consider to be no better than a beta.) they have BIG competition on their hands.

Yeah that surprised me, right now you are exporting the files as TIFF's to Photoshop.

Why not, Macromedia was a Macintosh only platform for the longest time.

Really interesting. Kinda makes me wish I had a mac to try that out.

I read something pretty interesting on the adobe forum there...

Sounds good to me, photoshop is a little slow on my system. A lighter program might be nice for general processing.

Cool! Being an application developer on the Win32 side, I can say that Lightroom represents the "next-generation" look, feel and useability that much of the industry is striving for. I would like to know how Adobe are hoping to provide the same UI on Windows without requiring WinFX (Windows Presentation Foundation) be installed on the client. They might be forced to "dumb down" the interface a bit.

For what it's worth, Microsoft have done something similar, but much less powerful in their beta "Max" product--though Max is geared less toward the Photoshop CS2 user and more toward the Mom looking to share photos with Grandma and Grandpa.
