I've been wondering about this since my resent submission in the username challenge is being killed because I edited it on a laptop and looks good to me, I have no access to a CRT this week so I have no idea why I'm getting the comments I'm getting. I am totally embarrased that I submitted an image doing this bad. :(

I ran Spyder2PRO on my new laptop (Acer 5672WLMi) and it worked fine right up to the very end. I got an error message saying, "Sorry no calibration data was found in the profile "sRGB Color Space Profile" for display "Plug and Play Monitor." Please select a different profile using 'Profile Chooser'.(1168)"

Adobe Gamma was deleted, for those who are wondering, so that's not the problem. I don't exactly know why the software prompted/suggested "Plug and Play Monitor" as the profile name. I wonder did it think that I was calibrating an external monitor? I tried selecting the profile from the "Profile Chooser" also but it still wouldn't load, even though it's on the list of "all monitor profiles." Any suggestions?

This sucks, because I too have Spyder2Pro and a laptop.. and am not happy with my calibration. But, I don't know if it's me.

In Photoshop, my colors look one way, outside of photoshop they look different. So, I never know how others see my images. Too light, too dark? :(

It works great on my PC and Dell monitor. I love it. I contacted tech support; hopefully they will be able to steer me right. I'll keep you posted. Must be some little thing I'm doing wrong.

do keep us posted. I also have an acer but its an 8103WLMi though I doubt much would be different between the two. I have to compare picture on my laptop to my husbands desktop to make sure they look ok on both, pain in the arse! Well, would like to know what you find out.

Can you PM me if you hear anything so I don't miss their response? It works just fine on my desktop, but my laptop (a HP zd8220us) gives me trouble.

For anyone who was interested here's what I got back fron ColorVision customer support. I followed the steps and it seems to load the profile without incidence now. Let me know how it works for you. Good luck.

Cheers,

Owen

Owen,

OK,

The issue, "Problem associating profile", this is a common issue with Windows OS. This is an indication that the Registry is out of sync with the content of the Color folder. This is an issue with the Windows OS. It is not created by the ColorVision applications. It is a general problem for all monitor calibration products and is discussed in the support areas of all major vendors in this arena.

The following steps will often correct this (these instructions are for Windows XP). For Windows 98 the instructions are basically the same except for the path to the Color folder and the path the 'mntr' key. On 98, the Color folder path is Windows\System\Color as you have noted above. The 'mntr' key can be found by using the Find command in RegEdit.

First
-----
See if you can associate the profile using the Display Properties control panel:

) open the Display Properties control panel

) click the Settings tab

) click the Advanced button

) click the Color Management button

) if the profile is not listed:

) click the Add... button

) select the profile from the file dialog

) click the Add button

) locate the profile in the list titled "Color profiles currently associated with this device"

) click once on the name to select it

) click the Set As Default button

) click the Apply button

) confirm that the correct profile name is listed above the profile list under the title "Default monitor profile" ===== If that process works then you are done =====

Should ATI Catalyst be disabled before calibrating?
02/26/2006 11:54:02 AM · #18
I got a Huey for my LCD and I really like it. Colors seem quite accurate. No, I didn't disable ATI, but I had it at the netural defaults anyway.

I have a Spyder2 and the PRO software and am very pleased with it. I have used it on a brand-new Vewsonic VP730b (17"), and two 5-year-old NEC MultiSync LCD1830s (18").

I have found that my initial assumptions about calibration were completely incorrect. Calibration does not 'fix' any display. It simply records how that display produces color, and tries to compensate accordingly.

The calibration on the NECs was a complete failure. The displays are simply too old and too outdated to produce anything approching median quality. I think they capped out at about 40cd/m2 of brightness (white point), and the RGB sliders made no noticible diference.

The ViewSonic, however, performed flawlessly. RGB adjustements were obvious and immediate, and my highest white-point that retained bright detail was 90-100cd/m2.

In short, the results of calibration depend entirely on the display. If the Spyder2 won't produce results, you probably won't have much luck with another device.

I also got a similar error message. Thing is, when i go to Display Properties>Settings>Advanced, I don't have the color management tab.

All I can see are the Display (DPI) Setting and Compatibility options. I'm using a Compaq laptop btw.

Confused... :(
