I´m looking for a printer in the Canon series. I´m mostly looking for photo quality and I have narrowed my selection down to two:
ip4200 282$ (icelandic store price converted to USD)
five ink tanks and 9600 x 1200 dpi resolution.

ip6600D 468$
six ink tanks and 9600 x 2400

Is this difference worth the $$$? I also like BW alot, which would suit me better?

I dont consider the ip-5200 an option becouse it is just a tad bit faster edidtion of ip-4200. And I would like the new chromalife inks and thus ip8500 and 9900/9950 are out of the picture..

The 4200 is a four color printer -- Black and cyan, yellow and magenta (CYM). There are two black inktanks. One is a dye based ink, the other is pigment. (CYM are dye based). The pigment sits on top of the paper, and gives crisp text documents. The dye is absorbed into the paper, and is beter for photos.

The 6600 has six colors, black, CYM and photo cyan and photo magenta. This is probably a better photo printer than the 4200.

I have the ip6600 and it does a fair job of printing, however everything seemed just a shade brighter than what I was seeing on my computer monitor. Much trial and error has gone into fixing this and I still do not have it completely worked out, but it's way better than before. This is probably the user. I still enjoy the printer and have been satisfied with what I'm getting from it lately. Hope this helps.

If your output doesn't match your monitor in all likihood your monitor isn't calibrated and/or you aren't using ICC profiles for printing.

I got the 6600 for $150 from Beachcamera.com. I like it a lot. I haven't tried B&W yet.
