i just got finished with all my family get togethers and i am the family "photographer"....every family has one...one person stuck with taking all the photos and it's like they weren't there because they weren't in any shots themselves....ok i am rambling.....anyway...i am loading all the photos now into my ibook and i am noticing that alot of them have heavy shadow on the backgrounds....these were basic snapshots....used built in flash....how can i reduce these shadows while taking the photos? any tips would be helpful....oh happy holidays to all |

Get a REAL flash instead of the onboard thing, then you can bounce it off the ceiling or wall...... much better.
If that is out of the question, try a diffuser like the one I made.... it does help.

if you are using external flash, bounce it off the ceiling
with on camera flash its a little difficult to do that though |

Soften flash will help. Sometimes a simple tissue over the flash will help with harsh shadows.

Moving the subjects further from the background should help, too.

Many cameras will also let you reduce the power of the flash through a menu setting. |
