Some recent threads have made it clear that mk has shared remarkably little information about how she functions, and that this lack of information has resulted in some confusion and misinformation about mk's purpose, goals and procedures, and generally about who mk is and why mk exists.
As a first step to remedy that, mk would like to open this up as a Q&A session. If there's something you've always wondered about how mk works, but never got around to asking, she invites you to do so here. mk will do her best to provide clear, honest and understandable answers, or at least make up something good. If she falls short, please feel free to ask her to clarify.
In the interest of framing this discussion, mk intends this to be toward understanding mk in general. As always, she invites you to share suggestions for improving mk, but to help keep this thread manageable, she asks that you send these suggestions via PM. Likewise, questions about specific actions (DQ of a particular photo, locking of a particular thread, etc.) should be addressed through PM as well. Questions on how mk handles suggestions in general, or how mk handles DQ's or forum moderation in general, are, of course, welcome.

Good question. I applied to be on the SC when they asked for applications in late 2003. This is what my application said:
I think I'd be good site council because I've been around since the beginning and have seen where it's come from and also, I'm a very good speller. I am truly capable of not being a sarcastic ass all the time, I can be fair and level-headed and, on occasion, even insightful. And I'm on dpc all the time so I could be ready with the smackdown at any moment. In all seriousness, I'd be interested in helping out with any new features for dpc and hopefully with ideas for more in the future. And dpcprints too, since I pasted my url on the entire internet. I've had a fair amount of experience on the internet so I think I'd be a pretty good tester, etc. And I use my powers for awesome!
How I actually got voted in, I have no idea. Maybe there were only as many applicants as there were open positions. Looking back over what I wrote, I feel like I've held pretty true to my promise. It's true that I am quite sarcastic by nature and that I suffer from a boiling inner nature but I'm not usually intentionally cruel. I do occasionally try to be helpful and I think once I even succeeded. I care about the site a lot and spend a lot of time here.

Total truth. For starters, I have disgustingly thick hair. The kind that makes nearly every hairdresser I've been to say, "ugh, you have SO MUCH HAIR." And it's not the good kind of curly like Jinjit has, it's just unruly, thick, stupid, half-assed curls. I straightened it for years but finally found a lady who cut it in a way that it doesn't look totally ridiculous curly so I'm going with the flow now.

Only her parents. MK is actually short for Ms. Kent, the mild mannered alter ego she uses (along with glasses) to protect friends and family from villians. |
