I got a lot of comments on my B challenge photo, Beach Backyard, saying that it would be better in color, or that they would at least like to see it in color, so here it is! I chose the black and white because I found the color distracting. I wanted more focus on the lines and forms.

Here is the Color Version. It's a bit overaturated, just to show what the colors were. The original was pretty dull.

Also, here is an outtake that I didn't choose that I would have given the same title and is shot in the same area. I'd like to know if you think I should have submitted it instead and if you like it thanks.
Beach Backyard Option 2

I think that one might have done better. I'm so bad at choosing. Thanks again to everyone who took the time to comment on my photo during the challenge, you're comments were very helpful and I want to find out if I made the right choices.

How about color on option two. I think that would be my favorite. Very nice shot.

lol. Are you trying to drive me insane!

I'm getting the feeling that people generally prefer color to black and white, especially for shots with water in them, since they like to see the blue and the white foam on the waves. I will try to remember this in the future!

Thanks for your comments on Letter B options. I like the color version better, I think B&W is nice when used for a purpose, ie; highlighting detail and textures, but I find it over used on this site. The color version is great

I think I just have a problem with color shots where if the colors aren't really crisp and vibrant, which they usually aren't in real life, I find them irritating and distracting and just convert them to a nice black and white. I suppose I have to start appreciating the natural dullness of the colors around us but I might be having trouble with it due to my film background where people tend to oversaturate colors a lot and get everything really crisp so that in the lower res moving images things pop out more. Funny thing though is that I can't stand old black and white movies, even if they are very good. :)

I prefer your Beach composition #2 over either of the color and black and white original shots, as the fence gives me something to focus on and makes my eye follow right through the photograph. In this case the black and white does work well, because of the fence pailings and shadows. Mind you - it would be interesting to see a colour shot of this one too :)

I like the colour version of your challenge entry better.
I think your beach composition #2 would have scored higher because it`s a very striking image and very sharp, maybe top 10 pic.

yeah, i thought the second shot was better, but i was worried that people would think it didn't fit the challenge, since the Beach wasn't really the subject of the shot and I couldn't think of a word for fence that started with B.

Jason,

I like the shot you didn't submit much better than the one you did. I believe the shot you submitted has more impact as B & W.

finally! A vote for B+W! That's what I thought too. Now I really wish I had submitted that second shot. Oh well.

I like the B&W version of the original one better (for the color reasons mentioned - dull, etc.) but really like version #2 better than #1 the white fence so beautiful! Like everyone else, I'd like to see #2 in color!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Here's the link to the original color version of the second shot, it isn't cropped and edited the same, but you'll see what I didn't like about the colors (probablly) COLOR VERSION 2
