In the unlikely event that anyone wants to see a larger version of any of these pictures, let me know, and I'll put them up at my blog.

The center bottom one looks interesting. If you have link to a larger version that would be great.

Also, the woman walking.

Just incase anyone is wondering, these are Old Order Mennonites not Amish. I don't know what the big difference between them and the Amish is other than the Old Order Mennonites have rubber on their buggy wheels and the women can wear patterned dresses.

I don't know what differentiates one from the other, but just north of me as an Amish community. The restaurant I work at gets regular visits from several groups, they all come by car though. Their clothing is handmade and the women have their head covered sometimes (married vs non i think, like beards). From what I hear from co workers, they are menonites, but i guess new order?

These pics make me want to out and about!

Cool pics, looks cold there.

I guess menonites can use computers too, one of our customers is one.

Mad, I think it depends on what conference they belong to. I went to Eastern Mennonite University, and I can tell you the majority of Mennonites look just like anyone else. When I went there only two girls dressed plain, and one of them wasn't actually Mennonite. She was river Brethern, or something like that. I've also been told by friends in Lancaster that the buggy driving Mennonites we have around here, only exist around here.

I can add some to that. The Amish do not have phones or electricity while the Old Order Mennonites do. I also know that back in the early 1800s the Amish devided and from it became the old order mennonites. From there the Brethern and new order mennonites derived. Difference in new order mennonites is they believe in all the modern conviences where as the old order mennonites do not drive cars unless they are totally out of debt and they are also very plan and simple.

To generalize greatly, the Amish tend to live in a more segregated from society fashion that Mennonites do. They originally branched off from the Mennonites because their leader didn't feel like their current separation from the world was strict enough. Mennonites typically embrace technology a bit more - telephones, cars, schools, etc. while Amish stick to the old ways.
