I was recently browsing in the members profiles to see their work and just saw this in a profile :

Avg Vote Cast: 2.9216

How can it be possible to have a so low avg vote cast ?? I think it's really unfair to vote like this....
07/03/2003 04:42:02 AM · #2
how many votes did they cast?
07/03/2003 08:43:04 AM · #3
more than 50

Well, if they've only voted on part of one challenge so far, and they were going through first to get out the ones they DIDN'T like ... or if they ONLY vote on the ones they don't like, leaving the rest un-voted on?

Just spinning possibilities.

Etienne, how can you tease us in this way. Inquiring minds want to know who!

I reckon that person has infected everyone who's voted on my 'Speed' entry! ;)

He/she should be banned and publicly humiliated by being named and shamed. Finally, their eviction should climax with a candlelit cermony to be held in a remote, dark wooded area (somewhere) with the culprit placed within a circle chanting, dancing DPC addicts who should be encouraged to throw Memory Sticks, CCDs and flash cards at them - until they suffer psychological breakdown and sobbingly apologise.

Or do you think that's a bit harsh?

If their average were 8.0784, would you still be complaining?

I would - because their average would not be based on the abysmal scores they must have given to my awesome masterpieces!!!

It is possible that they only use 1 to 5, or something similar, which is perfectly fine.

Why is that fine on a judged scale of 1 [bad] - 10 [good]?

Funny that person has won two ribbons and obviously knows what good scores look like.

It's too bad some people think voting down is ok - and somehow her 50 votes got counted.

*shrug*

I think anyone openly admitting to using only half the voting system should be banned. They must surely have 'issues'!
07/07/2003 08:39:04 AM · #13
Well...I'm not asking for him/her to be banned or something...(no Jak, I'm not going to tell the name ;o) but I just wonder what would happen if at school where you are judged on a range from A to E (I think it's the case in the US, but we have 1 to 6 or 10 here in Switzerland) and the teacher would always give C, D and E's... the kid's (and the parents obviously) would be happy ?!?!

Well I think that an average between 4 and 7 would be fine, becaus it's an AVERAGE...and the real average between 1 and 10 is normally 5.5

and after this...you want me to give the name of the member ?!? :-)

I think it's poor form to mark everyone low as a matter of course... I must admit that after seeing how everyone had voted on my last image I thought I was being too loose with my scoring and was tempted to re-visit some in the downwards direction..

The temptation is to say my shot is better than that and I'm only scoring 4 so that is a 3.. No one will like it but maybe your score for the current challenge should be hidden until the end of voting..
07/07/2003 09:52:09 AM · #17
Is it possible this person is only voting on an elite group of entries and marking down her competition?
07/07/2003 10:03:55 AM · #18
I guess that's more than possible.. A bit sad it it's happening and you have to remember that if a 100 people vote 7, 8, 9, 10 then the effect of one person voting 2 is pretty negligable (sp?)..
07/07/2003 10:40:01 AM · #19
Define negligible when the difference between this person's ribbon and fourth was .06...is that negligible?

I see that she has only cast 51 votes and has entered 11 challenges. I don't see how her votes could have been even counted in most of the challenges. She could no way meet the 20% requirement. IMO not a team player but a good photographer. Nothing says you have to vote at all.

If those votes were all in one challenge, than they definately could have met the 20%. Nothing says that she voted on all the challenges. My guess is that she voted on one challenge, and quit.

Me too.

Just to play devil's advocate, what if she voted on 25 shots in the two challenges she was close to a ribbon in?
07/07/2003 11:16:25 AM · #24
Nope. Being reasonable is not getting us anywhere here. Let's see her face, then let's burn her at the stake. ;)

mavrik.. that's a fair point about the .06
