It's time for me to think about holidays, the skies are grey here and I'm cold.
Unless I can find somewhere really cheap in America I'm pretty much going to be stuck in Europe for a while and I've been photographing Cardiff for months and months.

I want to find somewhere with good lighting. Greece was great, fantastic light there, really nice for shooting. But where else in Europe am I likely to get great light most of the year round? Paris is similar to Britain and I'd imagine that Amsterdam and anywhere further North would be the same. Then there's also the subject matter. I shoot mainly street work, some other odd stuff if it catches my eye but mainly the mundane.

Anyone got any suggestions please?

I have never been there myself (After i turned 10 or something) but I heard that Croatia is really nice and interresting. Light would also be pretty OK.

Venice is cheap to get to, accomodation is less cheap though.

Have you been to Sicily? Great food, great nature, great history and great weather conditions.

I was born there and could suggest some sights, if you want. Also Rome, Tuscany and Umbria can be OK (if you're lucky).

It's not the best time of the year for Venice. High risk to find a grey sky all over Northern Italy.

Actually I have heard that Tuskany is reasonable.

Hotels/travel companies must make a hell of a lot of money you know.

If any of you are ever in Wales I'd recomend Tenby when the weather's good (okay, I know that's not often). Some amazing photos to be taken there.

I was to Prague last summer and I have to say it was great. //phototravels.net/czech-republic/prague.html has some examples.

Marrakesh is not too far away and I believe that there are now some budget flights out there. The light south of the med is very good and makes colours very punchy. Also a great place and very cheap to eat and live there for a bit. Lots to do in the surrounding coutryside, too.

Tuscany sounds great and the Mediterranean coast as well. The weather should still be just warm enough to bounce around. I'd bet there will be almost no tourists.

It rains in Paris a lot in November and tapers off in December and one of these days I would like to do shooting of the streets at night in the rain in B&W.

Legalbeagle makes a good point. What about Morroco?

Might I suggest Austria?

If you make it over to Canada I'm sure you'll be happy as well.

BTW the Wonderstuff is an awesome band! I'm guessing that is the explanation behind the screen name? NeverLovedElvis?

Think of Corsica.

Ajaccio has plenty of street stuff, and the surrounding countryside - well the whole island - is spectacular. High mountains, wiggly roads, olive groves on the rolling hills near the southern coast.

Not your usual Med. island, it has a rough and tumultous history.

If the weather is 'bad' that just adds to the beauty. Multi-layered clouds on the granite peaks cry for a camera.

(You can tell, I really loved that island when I visited it.)

Venice without a doubt! It changes with the light and Canneletto paintings are around every corner. The street scenes are certainly different and there is the opportunity to travel to the islands that are again vibrant and different. The architecture, the people and the original photo opportunities are endless.
And of course the food and the wine are a bonus!

If you're in street photography and other odd stuff like that u should consider comming to Romania(in Transilvania - part of the country to be more precise). It's very cheap and there are a lot of great subjects.

Venice gets my vote but this time of the year it may be dreary. Might have better luck down Rome way or even further south along the Amalfi Coast. You can stay in Sorento cheaper than the actual Amalfi coast area.

you might like to try Montpellier in southern France ,could still get some nice warm days with good light.

You can fly from the UK down to Malta quite cheaply if you look around, and you'll find some very interesting old architecture there. Weather's OK this time of year, but gets kinda lousy after the first for a couple of months.
PM me if you come down...

My parents are from there and I haven't been there since 1984. It is gorgeous there. It's actually become a hot tourist attraction. The Adriatic Sea is crystal clear. Be forewarned, no sandy beaches, but LOTS of rocky shoreline. Check it out here.

P.S. That's it..........I'm going back soon

As it has not been mentioned, Barcelona can stay sunny and warm into December, as can Sardinia, both RyanAir destinations.

Austria was nice, I was there last Christmas. I loved Hallstatt but it is dead, and i mean dead during Christmas, so much so that I had to leave and go back to Vienna or I would have starved. London is another great place, I love it. Munich would also be great during the holidays.

I will be going to Italy in May. How is the weather and the photo ops in Florence? I hear that Cinque Terre is also great for photography.

Have you thought about Spain? Some great places there and lots to take pictures of. Madrid is nice but down south you have the Costa del Sol, Malaga or Torremolinas all great vacation spots. Other places worth visiting are Granada, Cadiz, Jerez, Sevilla. All are terrific and Spain is still affordable for the most part.

Barcelona, no doubt... a city that you´ll enjoy for sure

Sorry Alexis, didn't mean to slight Barcelona, truly a beautiful city you live in. One of my favorites.

If you are going to go to Venice, you should go to Burano - ridiculously photogenic, fantastic colours, must see if you are near it.
