I have my own domain name, but I am not very happy with where it is parked right now (I think that's the terminology). I would like to park my website somewhere where I can use my own domain name. Does anyone here know of a good service for this?

It would not be a large website, so it doesn't need all that much space, but I want to use it for a bit of exposure and to link images to prints available through DPCPrints.

I think what you're looking for is a webhost, right? I use Verve Hosting and absolutely love them. They have exceptional customer service and good prices.

I believe you're talking about hosting.

GoDaddy has a really good service and offers many very reasonably priced options.

Yes, webhosting, that's what it was called. I couldn't remember what the term for it was.

GoDaddy has good prices, but they can be a bit sneaky about some things under the hood as far as what they deliver. I'm not sure if it's a current practice, but they used to hide their websites from search engine spiders to minimize bandwidth usage. You get what you pay for. There are some excellent (much more robust) web hosts available in the $6-8/mo range. I use readyhosting.com ; it seems a bit overpriced to me, but I don't have have any major complaints.

Disk space isn't the expensive piece, bandwidth is (i.e. how much data gets transferred from your website every month)

If you're linking through to another site, that's fine - You just have to be careful if you plan to store images or movies on your own site, especially if it gets popular!

I have found that it's very easy to exceed the alloted bandwidth on sites I own. Disk space has never been an issue.

P.S. I use //www.hostnexus.com for my sites. Been with them 3 years and had very little downtime.

I use //www.hosteazy.com and have had really good service. Price seems good too but I haven't checked a lot so there could be cheaper.

I have one of my sites hosted at GoDaddy, and I've had a very good experience with them. The search engines picked it up very quickly, and the price is certainly reasonable. I also got an e-mail from them the other day, saying that their hosting space, bandwidth and other features are being increased 10x at no extra cost.

Ironic that I'm sounding like a commercial for them, considering I sell and design sites elsewhere for a living...

I've had good experience with //www.totalchoicehosting.com/ (TotalChoice Hosting). They have a lot of good packages to choose from for as little as $4 a month.

Second question, "bandwidth"? How much do I need? I did a search on the net for the question, and didn't come up with a good answer, at least not an answer to my satisfaction.

If you are looking for higher bandwidth and don't mind lower disk space; I use Lowest Hosting.com for one of my sites and they are pretty good.

Not as reliable as some mentioned before, particularly on the email & MySQL end of things but that may or may not be an issue for you (it's mostly around upgrade things since they don't seem to have a dual servers working or at all for all I know).

They run about $5/month (paid yearly) with the domain registration included for the first year (or added year to you current registration).

It's a difficult thing to estimate. The best way is to start with an average bandwidth (say 1Gb or 2Gb a month) and if you start to exceed it, just upgrade to the next plan.

Yes, don't go with more bandwidth than you need at first. You can always upgrade that if you need it. The same goes for file space.
