Have you seen this advert by Sony?
I saw it in the cinema before a film and it is awesome

Thought some of you might appreciate it :)

That's pretty cool! Do you suppose they really let all those balls loose like that?? I can't even imagine. It so hard to tell these days with all the things they can do with computers. In fact, I don't even want to know the real answer. I just want to believe that all those happy bouncy balls were just tooling their way around town all careless and fancy free. :-D

Those are my favoite kinds of commercials, the kind that just make you feel happy. The HP commercials are another ad campaign that springs to mind. Thanks for sharing the link. :-)

lol you can believe that, and it aint even that far from the truth. All I'll say is that no CGI was used, it was good pure mayhem.

My mate helped design the Sony website about the Bravia. If you go on the Behind the Scenes page you can watch a movie clip of them firing all the balls out of something like a cannon (not a nikon :-) ).

I just pity the poor guy at the bottom of the slope who had to catch them all.

When I saw that link a week ago I wished I was there during filming. It would've been cool.

I can just imagine the look on his face when he showed up for work that day and was told what his role in the action was to be. Just makes me smile a little more. Poor guy(s)

Oh i am so depressed now.

I firmly believe bouncy balls hold the key to eternal happiness... and the ad wont play for me!!!
Has anyone seen it on the tv? I am dying to see it.

I bet they didnt even have a guy there to catch them, but invited the local schools to chase after them and let them keep whatever they caught. Thats what i would have done at least.

I only managed to get one, low-res clip to play. Maybe we've put Bravia over their bandwidth limit? :-P

I'll have to email the link to myself so I can show my kids when I get home, if it'll run. They'll go bananas over it.

Have faith:

"How we did it

In an age when CGI is commonplace, this makes the commercial all the more extraordinary. Every single frame was shot over two days - with the main sequence involving a 23-man camera crew and only one chance to get it right.

An entire block was closed off and special compressed-air cannons shot the balls into the air, while earth moving equipment poured thousands down the street. Not that you'd know it from the finished product, but these balls can do some damage, so all the cars were props and crew members went so far as to having protective shields and crash helmets.

But when you get it right, you get it right. The goal at the beginning was to deliver a "really simple, visual celebration of colour". We think you'll agree the results speak for themselves."

I saw it last night, so it is definately being run in the UK at the moment. Spent the whole time it was on trying to work out if it was real or CGI, next time I see it I will just enjoy it methinks ;)

It's a really good advert.

As mentioned, no CGI at all!!

Two hundred and fifty thousand bouncy balls were used, not all shot out at once though.

There was a hugh net at the bottom of the streets to catch them, the films show local kids getting some though.

I wonder how long it'll be till some of them are on ebay :-)

I love the part with the frog.

I saw this a few days ago...love the song.

I've seen it a couple of times on English TV now, and I'm honestly not a telly addict (honestly!)

I was convinced it was CGI until I had a call from my friend (see previous posting).

Personally I find the frog part a bit out of place! Surely that had to be set up - why else would one of the 23 cameramen be filming a drain pipe? Unless he was just dropping a couple of the balls down it and was surprised by the frog?!?

awesomeness. Sony should sell every set with a bouncy ball.

Did you guys notice the part where it said, "By watching this commercial, Sony reserves the right to install a "rootkit" program on your operating system"?

What's that all about?

that was awesome
it reminded me of slippy's pumpkin rolling video :-D

yeah, if anyone's having trouble getting it to play, try the low-res version. i've only ever been able to get them working..i think its something to do with the associated quicktime software

i got that impression too..the frog bit would be cool, but it seems so set-up that it detracts from the reality of the bouncy balls
