For those of us who get it so rarely, winter is kind of dismal and dreary. Of course there are lots of sunny days, but I think it would be cool to have a winter challenge, but exclude snow. Not to give an advantage to those of us who don't have it, but to open the creative box and come up with some interesting ways to depict the season.

S'mores anyone???

.......and those of us that are buried in snow would take pictures of????

Ohhh, I can do that one!

That's my point, Ray. Think of something that's not a photo of snow that still depicts winter. It would have to be an indoor shot, but I can think of several right now. . . But I'm not tellin' ;~p

Works for me. Finding something else besides snow to indicate winter would be ... challenging.

Ray .. winter birds, frost patterns ummm well better not give all my ideas away :)

Or how about "Winter Without Snow as the Main Element" just for Ray. HEE HEE I'd like that too.

Sounds good to me...!

Thanks, Jutilda. This will probably be the year we have snow in downtown Los Angeles.

interesting idea

I also think this is an idea worthy of consideration, but I don't believe a pic of me thawing out after freezing my tutu off while cleaning out my 100 ft driveway will win me much points.

Winter birds....well most of the really smart birds left this area for southern climates,

Frost patterns...I guess I could always turn off my air exchanger and let my windows freeze over,

Hey, I know... a shot of my heating bill.....now there is something that really depicts winter.

Ray

Just pulling ya leg Jutilda....I am already preparing a list of possibilities.

I like this suggestion, I'd be in. Just let me get rid of the snow that fell earlier today :(

Perhaps we should have to Jutildalize the photo as well?? :)

Great idea! This will get ride of Icelanders, and over 90% of Canadian photographers too. :D Winning a ribbon has never been easier! Oh, wait, I am Canadian too. :(

Just kidding... But the fact is, you are likely to bring in home pounds of snows just by walking your dog, here in Canada. I think it may be even worse in Iceland. :)

edit: my English is bad.....

In the past we've tended to avoid season-specific challenges. Remember that while it's winter in the northern hemisphere, it's summer in the southern hemisphere.

So make it paired, exclusive, open challenges: "Winter Without Snow" and "Summer Without Sun"...

Oh, very good point! I keep forgetting that Exclusive Open challenge opens some nice options up for us!

I like it - very creative! But what about those at the equator, where it is fall and spring at the same time?

I think that this is an even-ground challenge, as much as a rubber-ducky one. If you think that depicting winter in Austin (where Judy and I live) is easy, think again. Last year we had 2 days of something resembling a frost, or maybe it was in 2003 - in any case, having winter w/o snow would be fun to think about. And, we can have it any time of the year, too - no need to wait for the actual calendar season to have it.

Could be fun without snow (but, no Santa Clauses in speedos either please!)

Call me silly but I'm willing to give up the -40 degree temps. of Calgary to travel somewhere and take pictures of winter without snow... *nodding* and DPC.. would be the perfect excuse... "Umm sorry all, I have to go shoot for a challenge.. back when i find the perfect shot.. Oh and that might take a month or so."

Giggles while losing myself in the daydream.. yeah I could totally get into this one..

I am quite the reverse... Here in the UK, our winters are usually wet and dreary, with very little or no snow (near the South Wales coast anyway!).
I LOVE the snow! I wish I could live with snow around me all year round!

That would be +1 or +2 to whatever score you would have gotten composition-wise and technically.
