Hey all!
A little while ago, I posted about how I was going to shoot a couple ballet classes, wondering if anyone had any tips for me...so yesterday I went in to do that very thing (had a ton of fun too), and today I have been editing like crazy, resulting in a jello-fied brain and a few nasty pictures.
so...my brain is shot, but here are a few of the shots for yall to C & C, if you'd be so kind. :)
The light was nasty (I ended up having to shoot at iso 1600 the whole time) and the teacher hadn't been told that I was coming to shoot (whoops...) so it wasn't exactly the best of circumstances, at least not at first, but as we went on, the teacher warmed up to me, I think. :)
So.
Enough babbling, here are the shotssss:

And just a quickie junk shot of a friend yesterday:

Thanks much everyone! I may try to return comments 1-4-1, but I'm not making any promises just yet. :)

edit:
whoops, Shanon (the director of this studio) asked me if I'd give Stites credit in the shots. Soooo...if anyone's looking for great dance training in Ptown, //www.stitesdance.com would be a good place to start. :)

The guy at the bottom forgot his leotard :) j/k

I still think together these photos make the start of an excellent study on dance (as per my previous comment).

Consider this a "Hey everyone else" bump 4 minutes after you posted.

It looks like you did a good job considering the conditions you had to work with. The "B+" shot is very nice.

Did you ask any of the dancers if they would allow you to photograph them in better conditions? Maybe you could have talked some of them into doing a few moves for the camera. Offer to send them the best shots.

BTW, have you seen my assistant\model? She hasn't reported for work yet. I wanted to shoot something for the Triptych challenge, but I can't be expected to do it all by myself. You did give her directions, didn't you?

Hoho, no she hasn't left yet. Said it was too far, and she wanted to eat a cinnamon roll before she left. To, you know, prepare. Or something.
Are you SURE you REALLY want her to work for you? Y'know, sometimes she can be awfully lazy...Like, with the whole cinnamon roll thing...Maybe you'd better just leave her here with me for a while, till she grows out of this lazy thang she's got going on... ;)

Anyways, about the dancers, yeah...I actually wasplanning on shooting at least a couple of them again (and some portraits as well as dance stuff), but I didn't talk to any of them yesterday...I know a few would be more than willing to model for me, I just haven't "officially" talked about it with them yet. :)

Just sucking up - don't forget in 20 years you're going to be voting on my social security, I have to keep you on good terms :)

(Serious about the dance study though - I like the harsh lighting conditions and how it shifts the focus away from the person as a person into the person as a dancer).

I think she's having second thoughts about giving you up. I noticed that there are new photos of you in her portfolio. I may have to try throwing more money at the problem. I bet she'll change her tune real quick if I wave two quarters under her nose. :)

Cinnamon rolls? I thought super models didn't eat. When you told me that I had to feed her I was thinking a little bird food would be sufficient. I don't know if I can afford cinnamon rolls.

teehee...well...I thought photographers didn't eat either, didn't *someone* say that once? ;) So it shouldn't be a problem, then! Right? :)

Ah, I will. :) They're usually all saying stuff like, "Doooood, if you let me like, hold your camera, you can take all the pictures you want. It's like, so rad. Dood."

Big long lenses impress people, methinks. ;)
