I'll be there for two weeks just after Christmas. I've been to Tokyo and Nagoya. Amy other photo ops over there? Any tips?

Tips: practice your bowing and your chopsticks. Take lots of money. Send me a postcard.

LOL! I got the bowing down and a bit of conversational Japanese (my gf is japanese). Chopsticks is a piece of cake. Money. Well.....

Sure I'll send you one. Where?

I went to Electric City last March and I was drooling all over the place at all the cameras and gadgets :)~

There are a few things that stick out in my mind when I think about my trip to Japan.

I extremely earestly recomend the following places.

Nara, this is a very old city and home of some famous temples, including the todaji, which is the worlds largest wooden building from what I remember. It is amazing. If you go, also be sure to walk to the top of the one of the hills somewhere behind the temple. Along the way you will see many other smaller temples and the like. At the top of the hill there is single grave marker that overlooks the entire area. Photo opps here are endless.

Mt Fuji.
If the weather permits, climb this mountain. From the town thats close to the base (which I forget) you can take a bus up to a trailhead and then make you way up the rest of the moutain. There are places to stay over night on the moutain (little shacks where you sleep like packed sardines) but if it's possible, try to see the sunrise from the top of the mountain. one of my priceless memories.

Hiroshima and Miyajima(sp?) island.
I dont think I need to explain Hiroshima. I just recomend going there and seeing it all for yourself.

Miyijima island is a just a little south of Hiroshima as I recall.
This is a large shrine/ historic area. Many amazing photo opps, my friend told me the hill behind the main area has some cool hidden stuff on it.

I know these arent all very close to Toyko or Nagoya, but the Shinkansen (bullet train) will take you almost anywhere very quickly. I recomend geting a rail pass and exploring some. Who knows when you'll next be in Japan.

These are just some of the things i recall most fondly from my trip. you should reserch, and find out what would suit your tastes best.

I'm thinking of going to Nara prefecture as well. I've already bought my train pass for the Shinkansen. These trains rock BTW :)

I've looked at the possibility of visitin a couple of On-sens while I'm there. Mt. Fuji might be a long ways away though.

What bums me out is that I won't be submitting any pics for the challenges. There is no internet connection where I'm at except for Tokyo. We'll be staying close to Shinbashi.

I've heard great things about Ropponggi Hills as well as Shibuya :)

I can't wait. It should be fun. Now I also have to look for the thread regarding bringing equipment on the plane :)

There should be (if history repeats itself) a "Best of 2005" challenge, so be sure you do some good shots BEFORE the new year, and you won't have to wait long to enter one :-)
