Has there ever been discussion of a 2-dimensional voting scheme (I am thinking technical and creativity would be the dimensions)? Instead of giving a photograph just a 5, you would maybe give it a 4 for creativity and a 6 for technical quality. The final score would be a composite of the 2 dimensions. This way, even if people receive a lower score than they expected, and dont many useful comments, they will have a better idea of why people scored them they way they did.

How about no Skiping on voting, you cannot see the next picture unless you vote, even if you close the browser and come back, it still starts you off at the photo you left off with,

what do you all think?

I like this idea. Considering how much time voting takes now (if you're trying to get all the images in a challenge, like I do), I'm not sure how well-received this idea will be, though. I do think it would be more meaningful/useful than the current voting.

If you search carefully you can probably find at least 200 threads on the subject, with all kinds of variations. : )

Same for requiring comments, changing who gets to vote, etc.

The only proposal for changing the procedure I really support is just eliminating the voting thumbs page -- you wouldn't see the thumbs for any pictures not yet voted-on. Afetr voting on the full-sized image you'd be able to adjust your vote from the thumbs page.

I'm not so sure about this one...

I don't know how many others do this, but I like to look at all the entries before I start voting, that way my voting is more consistent. I may need to do this because I'm fairly new to this, though, and am still trying to work out a voting style.

I think 2 dimensional voting is a good idea, there are many pictures that are very creative but technically not the greatest, and some that are technically very good but not all that creative. Maybe there should be 3 votes, one as we do now, one for creativity, one for technical quality. Ribbon winners would be based on votes as done now and mention could be made of top 3 creative and top 3 technical winners. Could get complicated very quickly!

As for skipping, I do that a lot. I may want longer to decide what I think but want to continue voting. I may want to see if it fits the challenge in ways I haven't thought of yet, and looking at other entries helps. I vote on every entry, even go back through and adjust after I'm done. I would definitely miss the ability to skip!

I am not sure about this. The current voting scheme is based on personal receiptions (of the photos). It is simple and effective. And it is fair. Art works are always judged by receiptions. No need to break down. Just my opinion though.

you are right i didnt think about it that way, but now that i think about the 2 dimensional voting i think that would be a good idea,

wondering, we all throw alot of ideas out there and some are really good and get alot of forum attetion, but why do we never see any tests like the 2 challenge idea, that worked out great.
