Hi all, as some of you may know, I have stated that I will be giving away a free DPC membership to the person that contributes the most to the CC between September 17th and November 6th. There was an outstanding reply to this, and I just wanted to remind everyone that this IS still going on, and it's not too late to join and start contributing today.
I see about 8 people that look like they are in the running for the free membership. They average about 30 comments each (some more, some less) So it would be really easy to catch up in the next week before the deadline. That's really only like 4 a day, so VERY possible if you're looking for a very respectable way to earn a free membership, here's your chance.

We have completed 724 cc critiques since Septemper 17th.
That's 17 per day.
There have been only 28 active CC members in the month of October.
There are currently 471 images waiting to be critiqued.

If you are interested in joining the CC, please contact me.
I would like to thank Neuferland, mandyturner, Artyste, sfalice, loseme, strangeghost, skief and ubigue for the excellent critiques given, you guys are the top 8 so far and I would like to thank everyone who has contributed so far, and encourage you not to give up if you are shooting for the free membership, there are many many more who are close...just don't give up. Like I said, only 4-5 a day until the deadline could land you a free membership depending on quality.
If you have any questions, please email me. I have tomorrow off (finally) so will be around and CCing.

Also, if anyone has anything to share about the CC, now would be a good time. Any encouraging words for people who may be considering joining? Any info for newbies that may be interested?

Thanks to the people who have already responded with interest in joining! Awesome.
Here's some more info for people wondering about the CC...

I've been thinking about joining the CC for a while, but I'm not sure if I'll join allready. I'm very new on DPC and pretty insecure about the comments I give in challenges, because I'm not sure about the way people will react to it.

Anyone?

Biteme...I have received nothing but praise on the critique club comments that I have given. I have not heard of a ccc being badly received.

One of the good things about doing Critiques is that it benefits both the photographer and the critiquer. (Is that a word? Sounds like a special kind of cricket)

It's good to put yourself in the place of the photographer and try to understand how decisions were made. What you would do differently and, most importantly, why.

I recommend the Critique Club to anyone who wants to learn a bit more about this craft. Besides, you get to know some very nice people.

I'll do some. I have never done any but I feel pretty cozy with the format. But as to getting in the running for a free membership... I don't think I have that much useful critique in me.

I have sent you an email.

sfalice...That's so true about meeting some cool people by doing the crits. Photos you might have missed otherwise, you can study and really truely SEE the photos. Thanks for your words, and for your great critiques. ~Heather~

Yea, Presidente!

You'll get addicted to another button and have a blast.
You can do it in a week.

With 3 days left till change over, I'd say it could get pretty low. Already like 370something.
Great job guys! Keep it up!

I have done 4 or 5. Not as many as i'd like, but I have my first real paying photography job on friday, so that has me rather pre-occupied. That and we are having indian summer, so trying to get teh kids outside and some last minute pre-winter yardwork done. Just too darn busy!

No requirement as to how many you do. Every one helps out. Thanks for the contributions, definately appreciated.

Hi Heather,

I've PMed Manic before about potentially joining CC but chickened out 'coz I'm not sure my kind of comments are really what critique is all about. If you could take a look at the "helpful" comments I've posted, maybe you could give me an idea if I would be of help.

Ironicly, it's your comments that have NOT been marked helpful, which are the ones that are more helpful. Take a look. All your comments that offer nothing but praise have been marked helpful, yet, the comments that actually offer something helpful, or something you would like to see differently, are not marked helpful. I will never be able to figure some people out.
The CC is not really looking to dish out praise. It's more about finding anything and everything that you feel could have been better about the photo, and helping them figure out ways to achieve that. Focus, lighting, angle, composition, etc. The CC comments are so very different to regular comments, that it's hard to compare.
Check out Artyste's Comments While it's not nessisary to go to those extremes, he's got an excellent comment style, very helpful, and points out the negatives and how those negatives could have been made better.
I listed a few people at the beginning of the thread, you can check out their comments made also to see some of what we're looking for. If that's something you can/want to do, email me so I can sign you up.

Heather you caught my attention this morning with this and after several months of not doing any CCs I did some today. Actually forgot how much fun this can be.
