I have been tasked with getting video clips from a Canon Powershot A310. The problem here is that the original media that came with the camera is nowhere to be found. The Twain drivers that were installed from the media do not recognize the video clips (or raw images), ony the Arcsoft Video (something like that) software can pull the clips, but of course it was not installed before the disc disappeared.
Can anyone tell me if there is any other way to get the video clips off of this camera?

you can get them off probably by just using a usb card reader and then just locating the files on the disc. I also I have looked and looked for the canon software on their website and cant find anything for my camera and computer too.

I just popped up here to follow up on my request.
Yeah, a cf card reader worked just fine. Why I didn't think of it yesterday I have no clue. The frustrating part of this camera is the inability to see the cf card as a seperate windows drive while the camera is plugged into the usb port. You must use the Canon software to read the images.

| check canon's website, under support and download for your camera, or possibly a newer version. the software should be there for downloading, and a newer version is probably available and works better. |

| The only thing they have available for download are updates to the software. While I have everything but the piece that can pull video from the camera, and it is all updated, their updates will not install unless you have an older version of that specific software in place. |

If you know how to program in C, you can download their platform SDK and write your own utility to pull the clips.

Are you sure? DPP is listed under teh 1D line of cameras as 'Updater for DPP' but it will download and install the entire software package, and other supporting software without seeing ANY previous version. And wile it is included with teh 1D (pro) line, it works on the earlier dSLRs from canon as well as the 300D, 350XT etc consumer cams. |

I have the installation cd that came with the 20D and it does not recognize the little Powershot camera at all. I also did pull down the Arcsoft update and when you launch it there is a popup that says there was no previous version installed and it exits.
micknewton, I thought about pulling the SDK but then I figured that my knowledge of perl probably wouldn't help me out much with their SDK. I don't know any other scripting/programming languages well enough to be able to do anything to tie into someones devkit.
There are oss solutions for pulling images from cameras out floating around in many places and I know that a couple work well, but none that will recognize or transfer the raw images or video. Just as is said in the Canon Hardware thread going on right now, I dread even calling Canon to get a replacement disc. |

The canon site lists this software for use/dowload withhte A310Powershot.
The WIA driver lets the computer, and any software on it, see the camera on teh USB port. It'll come up in anthing that can read TWAIN devices.
Zoombrowser does the same thing, but is the dedicated canon software. you'llnedd the drivers and this.
If your camera was bundled with some third party software, you're screwed. My scanner came with an LE version,and when i upgraded form 98 to XP there was no way to get the LE version upgraded. I had to buy scanner software, a full version.
If you camera records the movies in some standard format (most do) then yo can use lots of software to view or edit it. Windows Media Player is pretty good at showing most formats. |

I have ZoomBrowser and ImageBrowser on the computer already. The Arcsoft application is the only piece that can see the video (basic .avi files) files on the camera. The Twain software does not recognize RAW images or video. The Arcsoft software is the only thing that shipped with the camera that was not installed - mostly because there was no expectation of shooting video with the camera.
Thanks for looking, but I downloaded each piece you have in your image there and upgraded everything before I even posted the original request here.
As noted above, the camera records video in a standard .avi format so I was able to jut plug the card into a card reader (didn't think I had one here but found an HP photo printer with a card reader built-in) and grab the files without a problem. The camera apparently doesn't allow for browsing the files on the card while the camera itself is plugged into the USB port. Now I know why I like my small Sony camera's better.
