Can you give me some feedback on this photo? Note that my description was entered when I entered the photo, and maybe will shed some light on what I was trying to convey. As I look at the results, I am rather flabergasted (not just about mine, but about a lot of the photos), but hey ... what can I say? :) Please comment on my photo as is, and not as it fit to the challenge (if you can). Thanks! :)

Thanks cheekymunkey! :) Anybody else have any words of wisdom?

IMHO the photo is plain and simple, does not make me want to look at it and wonder, the burned spot and the dark area on the left are disturbing

apart from that it s expected that when you touch on religion yu wil have touched on a sensitive subject, in any case you got a favourit which is pretty cool in my book :)

Thanks Pano ... I used a flash light for lighting to emphasize which verse I was concentrating on. Hence the hot spot and the darkness in one corner.

BTW ... for those still not getting the photo in reference to the challenge: FINE! I am not asking for advice in regards to the challenge, I got that over and over again. I am asking for advice regarding the photo all by itself, as if I took for no other reason but to take a photo and put it up for comments.

Technically it's fine. You're making good use of DOF, rules of thirds, and lighting to draw the eye to that phrase on the page.

Apart from that, it just doesn't hold my interest for long. It's just some words on a page, in a book. It has no impact on me.

I find other shots in your portfolio far more interesting, like this one;

I Liked it! Considering this picture outside of the challenge its great. The only thing I might do is pull back just a bit to bring in more words. I honestly couldn't understand the verse you were pointing out. Love the lighting and angle of the picture, I think it really adds to the whole.

As a Christian believer who is familiar with the Bible, I had no problem "getting" your photo - you got your point across to me without a hitch. And, from my somewhat inexperienced point of view, I don't find problems with your composition, either. But there are plenty of folks who will not be as familiar with the Bible or its teachings who don't find the message as obvious. The challenge we all face in photography is to express (capture) that which seems so clear to us in such a way that the intended viewer(s) will get the intended message.

will beat the dead horse more :)

The photo is nice and for a religous group would hold much more impact and intrest. You did not do well because you did not personofy anything, and you showed text that was not a personafication. I think you still placed better than me and I did a true personification of emotional feelings, just badly lit (which I am blaming on the high gamma correction on my home system because it looked great there and dark on other systems)

That has happened to me before. :) Look at my Portrait photo ... ugh! Mine was opposite tho. My photo was way too BRIGHT! The great thing about DPC tho is that I have learned a lot, and I am grateful for that. And I do appreciate that some people enjoy my photos like I do. :)
