228 pics in 48 mins. Nice...uh...I think. Except my score sucks. Go pay attention this time. lol

I don't think anyone should be allowed to give anything lower than a 5 for this challenge, or we'll have a lot of depressed folks out there (like me, boo-hoo). This is just a bit TOO personal! : )

Don't know about everyone else but I tried not to vote too harshly and tried not to make it a "beauty contest." Let's face it, not everyone is photogenic ;) Myself, I'm the poster child for the "looks" disadvantaged.....lol

I think you should go back and vote again, orussel!!

I'd like to officially thank all the men who let it all hang out, so to speak... OOOOEEEER!

Unless they are pictures of things other than people or people that we know are not the photographer.

lets just vote for the technical aspect of the photo this time, LOL. If it's a "beauty contest" I'd suck badly too.

You agree with sagestudio but you don't agree with me? That allowed of course......but we're saying essentially the same thing...I'm confused.

I wonder if the male flesh will suffer the same number of 1 votes as the female flesh in the magazine challenge did?

I'm giving up taking the challenges seriously and trying to respect others hard work, because nobody else is, so expect to see plenty of the following comments this week:

"You have too many muscles, I have to mark you down for this"

"This shot would be much better without the nose"

"A picture of your face - too unoriginal. Originality is everything and this has been done many times before"

(In case you haven't noticed I'm in extreme sarcasm mode this morning : ) )

Well, I personally think these contests are just for fun. You shouldn't take them too seriously, since those who vote are not pros (I'm guessing now) but fellow amateur photographers and therefore perhaps can't really judge everything deservingly (me included!).

Although the more obvious 'great' pics often ranks in the Top 10, there are other 'pearls' that rank a lot further down. Perhaps because they are unconventional or a lot of people can't appreciate the style. Or because they simply can't stand to see nudity and therefore vote with a 1! ;o)

I personally think it's difficult to juge objectively, it's also always a lot of personal taste that comes in I guess. But I try to be as objective as possible :)

a self-portrait challenge, to me, isnt inherently so much a PHOTOGRAPHIC contest as it is:

a) a social event. Yes, a meet-and-greet for internet photographers "Hi this is me!" "Hi this is me!" "Nice to meet you, Me!"

and b) A creativity contest.

Because it's far more 'photographically realistic' to do a portrait (not self) challenge, where you can truly control the variables, not run back and forth with the remote or self-timer.

Well said Mag. Maybe if I'd been a little more creative in my approach to this challenge I wouldn't be doing so poorly (sub 5); I got lazy and I shouldn't blame the voters for that or take it personally :) Cheers.

Kinda hard not to take it personally though. It's a picture you took of yourself. Can't get much more personal. Like Mag said, this is more of a "getting to know you" event more than a photographic contest. LIghten up people, have fun and be nice! I'm sticking by my previous comment and not voting anything lower than a 5. : )

aww.. the flipside is 'get too creative and you will pay the price', too. such a fine line to walk at dpc :P

(mine was pretty creative - 5.36 ;))

I still wouldn't take it too personally though. When I gave low marks it was due to a "boring" or "simple" picture (in my opinion of course!), not because I didn't like the person on it.

I totally agree with you sagestudio. Anything that was remotely self-portraiture got no less than a 5 from me. The key words though were self and portraiture; even if not a self-portrait I gave no less than 4 in the spirit of easing up for this challenge. In general I think I was very liberal with the numbers this time. I even gave the male nudes good marks if they were artistically and tastefully done. It's hard not to be influenced by beauty but I think I managed to vote the females fairly as well. And let me add there was a lot of female beauty to be influenced by ;) That's not to say I voted the females harder but I tried to look at the technical and artistic aspects of the images first, as I did with all the others.

I'm with you - I took a chance, and am sitting around 5.25 - thought it would do better...and that's with people being more generous in their voting...what woulda happened if they were their normal cruel selves?

*shudder* :)
