I'm trying some post processing techniques and was trying to see what people thought.

The first image is straight out of the camera. Set the parameters to BW on my 20D and just clicked away. Image cropped and saved for web. The second was using duotones. I've never tried this technique as much but photographers like goodman make me want to venture outside my box. What do you think?

I like the orange one!

The orange one gets my vote.

Not sure about the orange colour but I like the framing better on that one.

Is it too much orange perhaps? I do like the orange/yellow duotones better and it follows the ROTs to the dime.

The B&W works better for me. The other is too orange. Last I heard, swans were supposed to be white. :-)

The orange is too orange.
Try the following. Start with B&W and then apply your orange but a lot less.
You should get a timeless sepia black and white shot :)

Yeah, there's a resemblance but arpita's shot is a more "natural" looking orange, and it has impacted the bird quite a bit less. Plus the highlights on your birds are blown away, and that doesn't help. Throw in the really "molten" texture on the water, and the arpita shot comes off quite a bit stronger.

Try some playing with your curves etc to get the swans under control, then do your coloring on top of that maybe...

Oops... Was remembering the keegbow golden bird shot from a few months earlier... fixed it.

Orange, since it is high in the orange range. In B&W it looks over blown.
