Hey, I've had this panorama for 4 months and I think i've finally gotten it to a version that I really like.

I found directions on using a contrast mask to bring out some detail beofre adding contrast back in. Tell me if you think another technique would have worked better. I tried dodging and burning, but kept giving up.

Here's the original. Slightly different crop.

Thanks for any comments or help!

edit - OOPS! put the wrong version as the original. Sorry about that. :0)

No wonder you like it. It's really dramatic - excellent.

Thanks guys. Good to know it's not totally my own bias :0)

Anyone have any tips to try to bring out the detail a little more/cut the haze out of it? (Without causing too much noise/pixelation that is)?

I really like the edited version with one exception. Your contrast adjustments have completely blown out the highlights in the sky on the right side. Maybe a slight burn is in order?

Wow. Man I was so focused on finally getting the mountains to look clear that I completely missed that. Thanks for pointing that out. Jeez, that is pretty bad...

Okay, fixed the whole thing.

Trying to burn the picture is a disaster for me. There's so much gradiation in the clouds and subtle color shift that they all get dropped out. That's why this pic has been so frustrating for me. It seems simple, but has been a real bugger to get actually right.

New try, original crop... well okay, it's not the original crop either :) The original was almost 30% longer.

Does the dark foreground work and center placement of the mountains, or are they better further down in the crop? I've been looking at this too much, I'm gettin neurotic.

The post editing work is perfect. The clouds are well detailed and have a great hue to them. The blown out area on the right ands to the photo and the mountains have just the right amount of shadow in them. I give it a 9.5

I like the bottom being cropped a little more. Since there isn't any detail there, it just adds weight. I like the crop of the first one you posted better. It's a beautiful pano. The hard thing is displaying them on the web. So much impact gets lost in resizing. I bet this is amazing full size.
