I prefer the original, which looks like a place I might have been, over the rework, which looks like a place that doesn't exist.

I think personally I'm heading towards a more muted colour palette though, so that also plays in to my preference. I'd clone out the white rubbish and leave it at that, personally.

A very poignant answer Gordon, I prefer the more " real life " type pics but they seem to lack the appeal here in the challenges in favour of the " fairy tale " type images that pick up the ribbons.
Bit of a catch 22 situation I suppose.
Thanks for your input.

I, too, go with the original. The second is a very "with it" picture, but it just doesn't look real. I have to admit that I have a lot of fun fooling around with the dramatic/darkened/hypercolored techniques, but they are all starting to look the same.

I like the rework, it looks "warmer" and a nice (very real) place to visit.

If it was a business, like a Bed & Breakfast, and I had to choose which one to use for an advertisement, I would choose the rework.

FWIW. ;^)

I Too like the re-worked. Its much more inviting. Quite honestly, the original is a bit boring and ordinary compared to the re-worked one.

I also like the re-work to looks warm and inviting in the fore and middle ground while the background looks cold and uninviting. I think that this pic would be interesting to look at with heida's port-processing touch. But its great on its own too. :)

This link shows how she did it on another shot....

Varied views.
Bump for the evening crowd...please.

How about a half-step? I like the punch of the re-work, but the yellows are a bit surreal. Maybe dropping the brightness a tad in the yellow channel, or possibly desat a bit of the yellow instead? Target in between the original and the re-work and see what you come up with. Just a thought. :-)

Definitely the original for me. It's already a nice job. The re-work is rather un-real.

I feel that the editing should be more or less.

The editing is still to straightforward to fit in the "fairy tale" category and too much to be considered realistic enhancements.

I like the higher green saturation in the rework, but maybe the shadows are too dark and lose detail for instance in the dark part of the trees.

I prefer rework

It depends on what you want to do with it. I like the original as a photo; I can see using it as an part of an advertisement for example. The rework, though, could be part of a series of similar work that illustrates a children's novel.

Like a lot of things, it depends on what you're trying to accomplish with it or what purpose it serves. Both are good and I could see using them in different ways.

I prefer the brighter colours, but I scored it high and don't really think it would have changed my vote.

Ah. Well, if you are after ribbons, then it is more of a theme to pander to the current zeitgeist of the site. You can see how far personally I am from that here so I'd take any suggestions I might have with a large cart of salt.

I'd suggest going where your passion and personality take you, rather than try to subjugate it to suit some other expected ideal - there isn't a lot of fun down that road. Otherwise you might find you end up pleasing everyone but yourself.

I prefer the original.

Although there is something quite ominous about the re-work, it's moodier. The original looks more inviting.

Depends what mood you're trying to convey.
