Things to do in your slow afternoon:
I just a bloddy funky idea!

GO check through all the comments you have left on photos.
FIND those that are NOT marked helpful.Click on the particular photo that you commented on. IF all the comments are not marked, then its OK.
BUT if other comments are marked helpful but yours is not (but you think your comments are) THEN go and edit your comment to "unhelpful comment removed"

Have a nice day! :)

So you going to change your main camera to the Sony DSC-W1 or what :P

Hahahaha, that would be great for the photogs that only mark praiseful comments as helpful, even if constructive criticism is offered. What a good way to stick it to the man, I like it. :)

Oh and I didn't read your rules very well shadow - if a comment wasnt marked helpful and it's been on a picture for more than a week, I deleted it.
10/05/2005 01:49:27 AM · #11
Well, I edited about 10 pages of comments so far, will do more when I feel bored. I mean, since its not "helpful" to the photographer, what harm is it to remove it, right?

Anyway, my edited version is as follows:

EDIT: "unhelpful" comment removed by voter

Mav, there're no rules. its just a funny suggestion. For instance, I sometimes browse through the arhives of old photos, and I do leave comments and i do not expect the person to check it as "helpful". for these cases, i leave my comment there as is. so its a case-by-case depending on your own wishes - no strict rules here, its YOUR comment anyway! :)

I like the idea, think I'll go and get rid of some of my old crappy comments.
10/05/2005 09:38:45 AM · #16
Do you believe that comments are helpful only to the photographer and no one else?
10/05/2005 09:42:19 AM · #17
Well, if my comment was to Jane Blow and Joe Blow got something from it great. However, I think he probly barely pays attention to Jane's pictures and will be MUCH more helped by a helpful comment on his own photo.

Yeah that happened to me recently. I put in what I thought was a fair helpful comment and I was snubbed. I guess cause she's a multi ribbon winner and me being only a two ribbon winner that my comment had no merit. I was the only one that she didn't mark as helpful. I won't gratify her with "unhelpful comment removed", I'll leave it there and let others wonder what was so unhelpful about it. edit: I wonder I had bagged my face would she still have snubbed me or maybe she only checks those who tell her how great she is.

I don't think this is a very good idea. I spoke to a new user earlier today. He'd only just gotten his first few comments (and did not yet know about 'marked as useful') and was calling to ask me why one of his very few comments was "edited to remove unhelpful comment".

Please think of the new users before you assume someone just doesn't like your comment.

I'm stayin out of this one.

I found ONE person who'd entered 1 challenge in the 50 I removed so if you're talking about someone I removed, I know who you mean. Yes, maybe I should click to see how many challenges they've entered, but *shrug* I dunno - it seems to me that I never give a great score on a 400 px picture either when a noob doesn't know what to submit.

maybe she was referring to me, Mav. I removed quite a lot, but those I removed, I made sure it was more of an "unappreciated" or "i dont like your negative blunt comments" sort, hehehe.

It wasn't you Mavrik. In fact it was someone who hasn't even posted to this thread, but has read it I suspect, since the comment was removed this morning with that quote (edited to remove unhelpful comment). This photographer has also entered just one challenge so far.

Just for the record - this is also why I put a link back to this thread in every comment I removed - so people would know why and could learn about this feature and how some people feel about its use as well.

fwiw, i think this is a pretty poor idea.

why fight "potential" spite with "definite" spite? if it doesn't get marked helpful, move on with your life.

don't you guys have more important things to do...? like, oh, i dunno...shoot pictures?
