This test only has one question, but it's a very important one.

By giving an honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally.

The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision. Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous.

Please read slowly and give due consideration to each line.

TEST:

You are in Miami, Florida. There is chaos all around you caused by a hurricane with severe flooding.
This is a flood of biblical proportions.

You are a photojournalist working for a major newspaper, and you're caught in the middle of this epic disaster. The situation is nearly hopeless.

You're trying to shoot career-making photos.

There are houses and people swirling around you, some disappearing under the water! Nature is unleashing all of its destructive fury.

Suddenly you see a man floundering in the water. He is fighting for his life, trying not to be taken down with the debris.

You move closer . . .

Somehow the man looks familiar. You suddenly realize who it is.

It's George W. Bush!

At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take him under, forever. You have two options--you can save the life of G.W.Bush or you can shoot a dramatic Pulitzer Prize winning photo, documenting the death of one of the world's most powerful men.

So here's the question, and please give an honest answer:

Would you select high contrast color film, or would you go with the classic simplicity of black and white?

I would shoot digital then edit in PS.

hehe

if it had to be film - whatever was in the camera...
if it was digital - photojournalists don't typically edit their photos so it would be up to the editors.

With our current Administration, I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I might be considered a dissident and held in an off-shore military facility without access to legal representation or trial... ;-)

I would start an identical thread on dpc every week which asks the exact same question...

(I know you probably didn't see it but I think this is the fourth or fifth time I've seen this in the last few months...on this website)

I'd throw my camera to the fishes and save him.

You sure it wasn't Alfred E. Newman floating by?

I would slightly desaturate (about 50%) the background to put more emphasis on the poor drowning man. ;-)

I would save him, Liberals are haters and because you hate Chaney more.

I'd take the picture and superimpose a liberal nazi in the image holding his head underwater .. giving us conservatives the upper hand in the next election

It's amazing to me how many people partake in crass, insensitive internet jokes such as this, especially in light of recent disasters in the US and around the world.

I would try to help first, photo's second. There is no photograph that is worth more than a life.

I would be pretensious enough to assume that everyone in this thread so far would actually help any individual drowning.

In regards to the joke... you either can laugh or cry, smile or frown, love or hate... and so on... but either way we all live in the same world and bad things are going to happen. I for one am sensitive to any disaster because I know that people are suffering. It does not mean that having a sense of humor about it makes there situation any better or any worse.

To make light of something does not mean to disregard or disrespect IMHO. I am sure my pocket books are just as light as yours when it comes to contributing to disasters.

I've done it. Two girls in the Arkansas River were in trouble when I was in my early 20s. I went in, fully clothed and got um both out. Luckily I was there at the right time. I'd do it again.

actually the photojournalists often do at least the first edits of their photos...they submit what they want, after that photos may be edited for publication though.

I'd go hold his head underwater and ask a passer-by to take the shots :)

I'd put the camera down and throw a sandbag to Bush just to make sure he went under. .then try to catch something on film that was worth shooting :)

Sheesh. You people hate him even more than we europeans...
I would nevertheless save him, and then ask him not to tell anyone I did it.
