My best friend is getting married this weekend, and I am in the wedding, so will not be doing her pics, but of course I am going to be taking lots of candids for her...
I was just wondering about noise...I have the D70 and have been using P mode with the ISO on auto...in dim places I get a lot of noise in my pictures...should I use a different mode for better results?
Also I love that really soft kind of glowing effect in a bride's head shot...any ideas on how to do that...or would it be post processing?
I took some good shots at my sisters wedding earlier this month, but am looking for some ways to make them a little more special. The big kicker I use PhotoImpact Pro because I can't afford PScs2... |

Have a go with the trial versions of either NeatImage or Noise Ninja to reduce or eliminate noise. I personally use NI and love it.

Hi-ho,
Ignore the noise, stop looking at the images at 100% on screen, and enjoy the day catching people being people.
Photos printed at 'normal' sizes from your D70 will be fine right up to ISO1600 as candids, particularly if you get some nice high contrast stuff you can convert to B&W.
Take as many cards for you cam as you can find, and shoot anything that looks vaguely interesting.... Keep on circulating pointing your camera at poeple until they ignore you as part of the furniture, and shoot some more!
Avoid neat image like the plague (Sorry pfoye) for candid stuff, as if you start with a high-iso shot and try to smooth it out it will look like plastic. Fine for runway models, candids are meant to be of real people.

| Shooting anything remotely interesting is definitely not my problem. Getting things to look the way that I would like is more what I am after. I will play around tonight and see if I can get some of the pics I took at the last wedding uploaded and maybe I could get some more advice. |

Gonna have to respectfully disagree with much of KiwiChris's ideas...
First, I wouldn't recommend shooting at people "until they regard you as furniture." Like it or not, not everyone is all that comfortable with being photographed, let alone being photographed repeatedly and intrusively. Let folks enjoy the wedding without having to keep one eye on some bozo who keeps following them around with a camera.
And, when used properly, NeatImage is a great tool for photos that are suffering from noise. If your shots are coming out looking like plastic, then you're just not using it properly. If they look odd, try resampling a different area, or experimenting with different settings.
I shot my first wedding this weekend, and I tried to be as respectful as possible to the people in attendance, while I made an effort to get everyone in at least one shot. And I think the highest ISO I used during the day (while shooting 1,068 shots...!) was 800 or possibly 1000. I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to go up as high as 1600, personally. |

Fair enough. :-)...
I do agree that my comment about shooting people until they regard you as furniture sounds a bit off the ball on a second reading... But I'll stick with my hatred of pixel peeping at noise and abuse of Neatimage.
