I'm looking for a good portrait lens on a very (very, very..) limited budget. I figure just about anything is better than the kit lens? I've heard good things about the Canon 50mm f/1.8 II and that it's great buy at only $75.

Does anyone use this lens for portraits? What do you think of it?

Great little lense for the money, pin sharp in most cases.

The only people that shouldn't own this lens are the ones who've been able to move up to the 1.4 or the (gasp!) 1.0.

It's a great bang for your buck lens. Super sharp.

The samples can't help you decide sharpness very much...just about any lens can look sharp at 640 pix but you'll have to take our word for it!

Various shot using the lens in question.

It is the best budget portrait lens of anything anyone makes.

A camera bag without a 50/1.8 II just isn't a real camera bag. It's sharp at f1.8, and razor sharp at f2.0 and above. If there's a downside, it's that the build quality isn't perfect. But for sharpness like this I couldn't care less if the lens was made of ice cream, it's still very much worth the cost.
