Greetings...

I would like to try to organize a southeastern US DPC meet for the spring of 2004. Sometime in March or April. I'm looking for ideas of places to have it and here are a few:

Savannah, GA
Atlanta, GA
Charleston, SC
Wilmington, NC
Pigeon Forge, TN

Any other ideas?

Pigeon Forge is good.
Atlanta would be okay.

Charleston or Savannah may be better for the Florida folks (or are they considered part of the Southeast, yet?) ;-)

Old Salem would be another decent opportunity...

-tempted.... so tempted...-

It's a long ways off to make any firm plans, but hey, it could be cool. I say somewhere nearish to Florida so that I won't have to drive more than one day (even if it is a 16 hour day or so...)

This is one of the reasons i wanted to try to plan far in advance.... to give people the opportunity to plan if they wanted to come or not...

I like the idea of Savannah simply because I have never been....

I've never been to Savannah before either, though I've heard it is awesome. Depending on when, Bernard and I might be able to make almost any of those locations

I like the idea of Savannah too. I'm sure we'd find lots of ops. A year away is fine with me. Gives me time to plan.

Karma likes Pigeon Forge because she can go shopping! Actually, Gatlinburg has the Hard Rock, the aquarium, and is right next to the Smoky Mt Park entrance.
Knoxville is the geographic center of the Eastern United States and is within a day's drive of over half the country's population. I-40 and I-75 meet here, and a third of America's population is within 500 miles.

Atlanta, GA 213 miles
Charlotte, NC 244 miles
Cincinnati, OH 260 miles
Memphis, TN 392 miles
Nashville, TN 180 miles
New Orleans, LA 600 miles
Orlando, FL 689 miles

Nashville is pretty central too.
I'm 317 miles from Savannah so that'd be cool with me. That drive through Georgia is just so dang boring.
I just thought that if you did it a little further north you might get some ppl coming down as well as coming up. Or are there not any ppl up north that we wanna see anyway ;P

Try Pigeon Forge I believe it is the first weekend in April when Dollywood opens for the season. I just saw the Dollywood show the other night on the Travel Channel and with all the cameras around here we would have a ball with the entire Parton Family including Dolly preforming there that weekend.

April 5-May 11 is the festival of nations at Dollywood. If you're gonna go to Dollywood, that's the time to do it. Knoxville also has the Dogwood Arts Festival in April.

Not to mention that the bass fishing is best when the dogwoods are blooming!

Indi, if we did Tennessee, would Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge be best? I haven't been to either place in a long time. Both of those are closer for me than any of the other places mentioned so far...

my vote goes for savannah--what a gorgeous place and packed with cool history and cool photo ops! ;)

bein' as how it's gonna be that far ahead, me and the missus might could make it, too ...

(like the simulated 'Southeastern' speaking style there? ;) )...

I'd be interested in coming. Savannah would be my choice but does anyone have thoughts about Charleston SC?

Narrowing down the options:

Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg
Savannah
Charleston

Do we need to add anymore?

Even though Im not from that area (the south east/east) I would like to make the trip. I have only driven through Charleston and that was long ago.

But any of those places would be nice to visit...

I would like to go to any of them, but I'm leaning towards the Tennesse locations because they are more centrally located. I think the photo ops in Charleston and Savannah would be a lot better tho. But Dollywood would be a lot of fun :)

If you go with Tennesee you get the attention of those in the "Mid Atlantic and Mid West also cause it is so centrally located.

I have been trying to get to Pigeon Forge now for the last 9 years and I just need a boost other than telling the husband I wanna go to Dollywood!

i've never been to Dollywood - that's cool with me too... hmm maybe we can make it a weekend thing and go to dollywood and then who ever can make the trip over to savannah can go there too ... i'll have to be gone a few days anyways with the drive i'll encounter getting to either place .. so might as well make it worth it :)
