I just finally made the jump from P&S to dSLR and bought the Rebel 350D/XT. After playing around with it for 2 weeks, I've decided I need a flash unit for it. Any recommendations on the best flash to use with this camera? Preferably the best bang for the buck.

I just recently bought the 420ex and LOVE it. The difference that it makes is like night and day. Had I known what a huge difference a good flash makes I would have bought that before any other accessories.

Anyway, I bought it at B&H for around $210.00 I think. Well worth the money. If you want to spend a bit more than the 580ex is the way to go. I am sure that people on here wil ltll you about the Sigma, however personally I like sticking with Canon stuff.

Best bang for the buck would be the Sigma EF-500 DG Super for $239. It's similar to the Canon 550ex.

Will the camera fully recognize a sigma flash on it?
Where I'm new to the whole dSLR and external flash world, I'd like to have something easy to learn, but yet won't be something I'll need to replace as I become more knowledable.

FWIW, I own the Canon 420ex, but I bought it years ago for a PowerShot G2. If I bought a flash with the Rebel, it would have been the Sigma EF-500 or Canon 580ex depending upon my budget. Canon recently introduced the 430ex, but it doesn't change my recommendation.

You can get the 420EX from Amazon for $178 and free shipping (it's who I used) like JayWalk said, the difference is night and day and the 420EX is a good one to start with.

Yes, it'll work just fine.
