I bought my 20D from DigitalRev via eBay back in November, on a "we'll pay the duty" auction. They took a week to verify my billing address before shipping, but it arrived quickly enough after that. In addition, when I faxed them the receipt from the import fees, they refunded the charges in full within a few days. I've also bought my TC-80N3 remote from them as well a few months ago, again no problems (apart from my local postoffice mislaying the parcel, but hey).

wow. is this "we pay the duties" deal common on eBay? I've seen some sweet deals from HK dealers, but with the duties and tax added, the price wasn't that competetive anymore.

It's pretty uncommon, and DigitalRev appears to have stopped doing them now (or perhaps it's only on the more expensive items?), but it was one of the reasons I went with them in the end. However, always check the feedbacks, and make sure there aren't any complaints about such things not being paid :o)

thanks for the posts, it says on their auction vat/import duty refunded,
but still not sure even though the lenses they sell are v.cheap.

Be careful with HK dealers as I was looking for a Canon 350D and had a good price but everywhere I went said "Sorry only the Made in China model available now".Be careful! You might end up with a very cheap 'parallel import'

One thing you may need to be wary of will be the warranties, as I don't think Nikon does worldwide (unlike Canon), so you may need to ship it back to HK should a fault occur. However, DigitalRev claim to be able to do this for you, though I've not had cause to test this yet.

I bought a 20D from DigitalRev in April. It broke within three weeks and they said they would repair it under the warranty system. It is now the middle of Sept and they still have my camera with no sign of it coming back soon. I would say pay the tax and get any equipment from a reputable local dealer. I just don't know what to do about hurrying up my camera when these people are the other side of the world.

I don't think digiatrev are HK based, they are Canada based if my memory still works.

That's what I ended up doing.Forget the price.Go for security. In the end I got what I really wanted near home for the same price as in HK they like to cheat you as they think any foreigner is a tourist.if you cant afford the extra bucks do what I did.Wait a week or two.Go for security.Someone on the other side of the world will have you surely well down on their priority list.I live in mainland China.Buy local.Pay more but less worry and enjoy your new acquisition.Makes for better photos.

So i assume the world wide warranty was no good? Sorry to hear of your struggle, It would drive me up the wall.

Just my 5 eggs, but I bought my *istDL from Pixmania (french). Paid a lot under the odds, it arrived damn quick, and they have a store front I can complain at if I need to. (admittedly there's only one in the UK). There's another thread along these lines somewhere.

The one thing I seem to remember about PixMania is that they only have to comply with French consumer protection laws, which aren't as strict as the ones here in the UK, so you might not find it as easy when it comes to refunds etc (I could be mistaken though).

HK is a common homebase of ebay scammers, too...I'd never buy from HK for that simple reason - you just NEVER know.

I have purchased small items on several occasions from HK suppliers on eBay with no problems as yet. But I am always skeptical!

I got a Stofen omnibounce of them, no problems, look at their feedback, plenty of happy buyers, just a few negatives,it seems the duty is the main problem.

I bought my 70-200 f4 and my Sigma 80-400 from DigitalRev. They seemed to be a little slow in acknowledging that they had received my payment (bank transfer, although sometimes it takes four days or so from leaving one's own bank to the payment arriving in someone else's). Both were on "we pay the import duty" deals. The first one they shipped to their UK rep., who then posted it to me. The second arrived froom Hong Kong directly and I had to pay £40 import duty. I haven't yet got this money back from DigitalRev - I must chase this up.

The Sigma (not the newer DG model) I got for £529 plus shipping and the money I still haven't got back. Just checked warehouse express. The lens seems to have been listed at around £ 770, so a bit of a saving.
