Ok, so I saw Pedro's video (not sure if you've all seen it, but it's in the Photography discussions forum)...anyway, I was inspired and have been learning the program. I am creating a project and I need help!

I'm making a compilation video of pictures for my step-sister to document everything about her engagement leading up to the wedding. I have a song for her engagement and for the wedding portion of the video...now I'm looking for a good one to put to pictures of the bachelorette party (we went to a dance club and PARTIED- so I'd like something like that to remember) and for the bridal shower (NO CLUE HERE). I love music, but there is so much out there, someone would probably have a great selection for me to try...

Can anyone recommend some good songs for me?

Thanks in advance!!

Jill

A song called "Where My Girls At" (can't remember who sang it) came to mind when I read the post...but I'm not much on most current pop/dance/club music because I'm a country girl at heart. I'm sure the DPC crowd can recommend something perfect for you, though! :)

For a quick paced one try:Sacha Baron Cohen "I Like To Move It"(Madagascar)
or Fatboy slim "because we Can Can" (Moulin Rouge).

I'm not much into Country, but there a really cute song called Kissable, Hugable, Lovable, Unbelieveable by Trick Pony. I used it for the Bacherlorette party part of a video I made for a friend's wedding. It's really a peppy song! :) Dottie

I would go in the direction of a slow piece because it will compliment the fades beautifully. I for example, used Take A Walk On The Wild Side, Lou Reed for my street shots.

To tip your hat to the groom I would run "At Last" by Etta James, under the montage. I bet the feel of the song will bring an interesting, thoughtful and graceful turn to the whole project.

PS If you need a copy, I'll e-mail you an mp3...can't hurt to try.

Have you ever really loved a woman by bryan adams. I love the guitar work in it and it fits beautifully.

EDIT: I could be slightly out on the name.

Another suggestion would be "change the world" by Eric Clapton. I would certainly go for a slow number as it would create the mood your aiming for.

Bonnie rait songs will work too! I also would look at..."sail away with me" by um....ok..can't think of her name right now...aaaah..I really hate that when you have a brain fart. NORAH JONES!! yeah thats her! Anything by her would definately suit.

I have done a few of these video presentations and found instrumental music detracts less from the pictures. Acker Bilk solos are brilliant for my landscapes.

I hate to be the one to bring this up, but what about the songs' copyrights? Remember that songs are intellectual property, protected by the same copyright laws that protect our photographs.

That said, I'm not sure if you are selling this compelation or not, but just flip it around and think how you would feel if someone collected a bunch of your photos, put them on a slideshow and sold it to someone else without licensing them from you or compensating you for their use. These songs should be given the same respect. Now, if you are not selling them, then it may fall under fair use, but be careful.

I'd look at some beautiful piano music. Some Rachmaninoff or Chopin's Nocturnes, the like.

I'm glad somebody noticed.
The Creative Commons lists music which may be freely used for these purposes.

Have you ever heard of the song "Touch" by Clay Aiken? It's one that's on his album. Beautiful song and also a good one to dance to; nice beat.

It's not going up for sale and I assume Bonnie Raitt, Bryan Adams, Etta James, AC/DC and even Clay Aiken, would probably be able to let it slide. Unless of course, The Chinese get a hold of it and thats when major copyright infringment and priracy start to kick in......then she'll have a big problem.

"Lady's Night" by Lil'Kim, Left eye.... and more would be perfect for the bacheolrette party. The bridal party, A JoeDee Masina song for sure. Very feminine and also very calm and hopeful. Perhaps an instrumental of "burn".

Closer by Nine Inch Nails

Actually, that would probably fit the first night of the honeymoon better...

You could try something quirky and offbeat - that's what makes them memorable. Like "I believe in miracles" by Tom Jones or something equally ridiculous.

Suggestions:
- Girls just wanna have fun (maybe too obvious?)
- Let's get retarded (black eyed peas)
- Hot in Herre, etc etc
- You're my best friend (Queen..great tune)

I did like the suggestion of Dancing Queen made earlier.

I'm personally against any adult-contemporary ultra-girly stuff, but that's just me.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I saw some country suggestions as well as recommendations to play slow tunes, however for the bachelorette party, I'd like to play something fast and upbeat...slow will come in during the wedding photos!

I understand copyright laws...and just FYI- I am NOT selling this to anyone. I'm simply making my stepsister a video montage of my pictures from all her wedding events!

Thanks again

"Big time sensuality", by Bjork. It's in her "Debut" album.

If you intend this to be something that will be watched in ten or twenty year there will be two possible reactions. If the currently popular songs you choose hold up, then people will think, oh I remember that song! That was such a cool song! Or if it fails to hold up, cringing embarasment at how lame a song that was. Either way it will detract from the images and disincline people from talking about the things going on in the photgraphs if there is a vocal. Instrumantal music wherther classical, ethnic, or whatever, acts as aural wallpaper, and lets your shots set the mood. But if you are going with vocals "Big time sensuallity" is a fine chioce."Closer" might upset the In-laws.

Anything but this(UK folks don't click -I warned you :P).

I think the song depends on the collection of images that will be present.
