We have a family friend who is a single dad but maybe getting seperated from his daughter, so I took this shot for him yesterday. He's really into art so I did alot of heavy editing, I also wanted the editing to capture the emotion of his love and the loss.
Could you please help me pick which one to give him!!!!!
Thanks

I am always saddened to hear a parent might lose thier child. its a loss no parent should ever have to go through even if they can still see and visit the child. please tell him my heart goes out to him and i am hopeful of a happy outcome for him and his daughter.

I think i prefer the last one with the BG blacked out(personal choice here) knowing the story behind this shot makes it an even more emotive photo for me.

They are all great. I like the one with the black background best just because it seems the most emotive and moody feeling to me. The daughter's eyes are mesmerizing! Nice work!

Sorry - but I don't like the plain background at all - you can tell it was edited out, and it looks like something is missing. It takes away from a great image.

Thanks everyone so far! Anyone else?
I don't know when I will see them again for the last time and what to have it ordered overnight from mpix ASAP.
They are moving to? ASAP. Been evected with no where to go, not even a car to get somewhere in and none of us have the funds to help them.

My advice is post the original pic here ( downed size of course) and let some of these DPC'ers have at it. I like the last two personally and think he'd like it a lot. But why not let some of the other talent here have a crack at it too? It's produced some amazing results in the past.

I vote for Always3C, If Im' not to late. I hope he loves the photo and something He can saver. I do hope well for both parties. It's also a nice thing to do for your friend.

BTW, MPix? That wouldn't be the same Company as Millers' Professional Images would it, located in Columbia, MO? If so, I have a second interview today with them in the Finishing and Printing Departments. It would kinda mind blowing if I saw photos posted on DCP in which later, I might be printing them out or adding finishing touches to your photos....

Best wishes and prayers to your friend and His daughter.

I'm feelin' ya here with the first one, I just wish it wasn't soo contrasty.
Its just a bit much for my taste.

i say go for the one without the background, use the one all black. i think it looks great and really focuses the eye on the subjects.

by the way... why is he going to be seperated from daughter? divorce dispute?

black background...focus stays on the two of them.

I really like Always 2B.. it drew the most emotion out of me.. and if he is Artsy I think it has alot of drama. Not sure if that was dodging and burning you did in it.. but I really really liked it. Did I mention I REALLY liked it? laughing

I can see the point of the focus being on just the two of them with the black background as well..but my gut screams the second one..

** I'd give him all 4 as well or at least let him choose the one that he liked the most**

I think the first one is my personal favorite. I know a 5 year old opinion doesn't really mean a whole lot, however when the image popped up on the screen...my son's eyes got huge, he gasped and said 'that's bad'. When I asked him what he was talking about he said it looked like he was choking the little girl. She does have kind of a bothered look on her face. So there is his opinoin.

would be my vote.

i like this one but i would straighten out the building in the background and crop it a bit tighter. gives a more powerful composition and a feeling of closeness.

something like this...

or even as tight as this...

just my opinion, of course. i hope everything works out ok for your friend.

These photos are too angry for me. I would want a gentler softer reminder (and of course I hope that they remain together)...

Yeah she is bothered because he's always hugging her when she is trying to play. My mom is her babysitter and as soon as she gets there she starts playing with the other kids, he'll stay and chat awhile and then hug her goodbye. I see it almost everyday, she's too busy playing to stop and hug daddy, so the other day it just happened to be one of those moments.

He is the groundskeeper at an apartment complex, as a benefit he gets an apartment. He lived in the complex for 8 years before becoming the groundskeeper, but when he took the job it was stated that if he ever stopped working there he had to move because only the current groundskeeper can live in that apartment. So he got fired and now has to move, generally he could have another apartment there but there is none available. So he will be living on the streets and doesn't know what to do with his 3 year old daughter, he is a single dad, with no family, and really no friends but my family. So his daughter's mother(drug addict) will probly get his daughter which she dropped on his door step when she was 2 months old. I really wish I could take her, my mom has kinda offered but she really couldn't take her since I basically take care of my mom. It's all truly sad!!

IMHO,

This dad will need something to remind him of the happiness that he finds in his daughter, and not a documentation of his pain.

He'll remember the pain fine. He needs a reminder of his joy. He needs a tribute to his lovely daughter.

I like the picture on it's own merits apart from the situation though.

I just adore the first one. Very dramatic.

Yeah, I also did some cute shots of her by herself after he left but not so heavily edited.
