HI,

I have been using my D70 happily for a few weeks, and successfully upgraded to the latest firmware.

After reading the excellent D70 guide by Thom Hogan I decided to make some changes to the Image Optimization settings, however the Image Optimization menu item in the Menu > Shooting Menu is now greyed out.

I have edited these settings before, however that may have been prior to the firmware upgrade. I have searched the manual and D70 handbook but I can find no reason why this menu item would be greyed out.

Everything else seems absolutely perfect... any ideas???

Thanks

Jim

Check if your dial is set to 'Auto'. Set it to P and you should be OK.

Or maybe.. Go to setup menu: CSM menu - Simple (first 10 items only) or Advanced (show all 26 items)

DOH! This fixed it!

I rarely use AUTO, and had obviously accidentally spun the dial...

The one interesting point from this is that surely shooting in AUTO doesn't preclude the Image Optimzation settings from being applied? If not, then why would this be grayed out in AUTO mode??

Thanks again

Yep. I seems like there is no Image Optimzation in Auto mode.

Umm, don't you suppose that if you are in "auto" mode that the camera is choosing it's own settings for "image optimization" just as with the other settings. Hence "auto".

Just my two cents.

Yes, auto is really quite automatic.

I call it "waiter mode". :) That is, switch the camera to auto before you hand it to the waiter to take your picture at a restaurant. Or anyone else not familiar with operating your camera model.

Two-month old thread... Just as well he wasn't waiting for an answer. :)
